Tigers Eliminate Wolfpack |
SALEM, VA -- Clemson scored seven runs in the first inning and got 7 2/3 innings from starter Tyle Lumsden to cruise to a 12-1 victory against North Carolina State in an ACC tournament elimination game.
Lumsden (5-3) allowed just five hits, struck out 10, and walked three.
Wolfpack starter Nate Cretarolo (3-3) did not fare nearly as well. The first six batters of the game reached base and stole four bases. Cretarolo retired just one of seven batters he faced and was charged with 6 of the 7 runs in the inning.
The Tigers (36-23) advanced to another elimination game Friday night against North Carolina or Duke.
Clemson added a run in the fifth inning on a wild pitch, three more in the seventh on RBI hits by McCann, Santangelo and D'Alessio, and another run in the eighth on doubles by McCann and pinch-hitter Tyler Colvin.
The Wolfpack (35-22) scored their only run in the third.
