Tech Rallies Past Tigers for ACC Title

by -

FORT MILL, SC -- For the second day in a row the Clemson bullpen was unable to hold a lead late against Georgia Tech.

Clemson (45-16) was poised to extend the ACC tournament to a one game playoff against Georgia Tech (47-14) on Sunday but instead the Yellow Jackets claimed a 8-4 comeback win and their first ACC Tournament title since 1988.

Freshman Clemson pitcher Ryan Childs left the game with the Tigers holding a narrow 4-3 lead in the seventh inning. However, Georgia Tech exploited the Clemson bullpen for three runs in the inning on Mark Teixeira's 2-run double and tournament MVP Jason Basil’s RBI sacrifice fly. Georgia Tech then added two more runs in the eighth to close out the scoring.

Kevin Cameron was the winning pitcher for the Jackets while Matt

Additon took the loss for the Tigers. The Yellow Jackets who also won the regular season crown have taken 4 of 5 from the Tigers this year.

"You have to give them the credit,” said Clemson head coach Jack Leggett. “They keep coming at you. I thought we had our opportunities during the course of the game. We quite honestly didn't situational hit very well. We had some opportunities to scratch out some runs earlier in the game, but we didn't quite get it done."

Earlier in the day the Tigers advanced to the Championship round by eliminating Virginia 12-5.

Khalil Green,Patick Boyd, Jeff Baker, and Ryan Mottl were named to the

All ACC Tournament team.

The Tigers will now begin preparations for regional play. Teams assignments

are to be announced on Monday at 3:00PM and play will begin on Friday.
