Salem, VA - North Carolina scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to eliminate the Tigers from the ACC Tournament on Friday night.

Clemson (36-24) held a 5-4 lead going into the bottom of the ninth, but Clemson reliever Tony Sipp (2-2) hit the first batter and then threw the ball into centerfield on the sacrifice attempt allowing both runners to get on base. Chris Iannetta’s popup down the rightfield line that second baseman Travis Storrer was unable to catch over his shoulder, loaded up the bases. Sipp then walked in the tying run and gave up the winning run on a RBI single by Sammy Hewitt. Michael Gross (4-3) got the win for the Tar Heels (41-18) who will next face an elimination game against Florida State on Saturday. The winner will play Georgia Tech for the championship. In the seventh, The Tigers took a 5-4 lead on Brad McCann's two-run homer. Sipp was picked off second base by Jonathan Hovis just a few pitches earlier to cost the Tigers another run. Iannetta hit a home run to give North Carolina a 4-3 lead in the fifth. Three consecutive doubles and an infield grounder plated the first three runs for the Tar Heels in the fourth. Leou Santangelo's two-run homer gave the Tigers the 2-0 lead in the first.
