Storrer, Smith Lead #7 Clemson to 9-1 Win Over #13 Florida State Friday

Travis Storrer collected four hits, and Marquez Smith tied the school record for doubles in a game with three, as #7 Clemson defeated #13 Florida State 9-1 in front of 5,338 fans at Doug Kingsmore Stadium Friday. Herman Demmink and Taylor Harbin also had three hits apiece for the Tigers, as Clemson improved to 37-13 overall and 19-6 in the ACC. Ryan Strauss was 2-for-2 and scored a run for the Seminoles, who fell to 37-13 overall and 14-10 in the ACC.

Stephen Faris (7-2) allowed one run on three hits and struck out four in 7.2 innings pitched to earn the win for the Tigers. Tyler Chambliss (10-4) surrendered nine runs on 15 hits in 4.0 innings pitched to take the loss for the Seminoles.

The 18 hits by the Tigers tied for the most Florida State has allowed in a game this season.

Demmink extended his hitting streak to 11 games with a double to left-center to lead off the first, and went to third on a Brad Chalk sacrifice bunt. Smith doubled to right-center to score Demmink, and later scored from third on a two-out RBI single by Storrer.

Ryan Strauss tripled to left-center to begin the third, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Shane Robinson to deep left for the only Seminole run of the game.

The Tigers answered with two runs in the bottom of the third on four consecutive singles to begin the inning. Storrer singled through the right side, and Harbin followed with a single through the left side. Andy D'Alessio singled to right-center to score Storrer, and Stan Widmann singled through the right side to score Harbin.

Clemson also had four straight hits to begin the fourth. Smith doubled to right-center to lead off the inning, and scored on Tyler Colvin's single up the middle. Colvin stole second, and moved to third on a single to right by Storrer. Harbin then laid down a perfect bunt down the third-base line for a single that scored Colvin. The Tigers had 12 hits after four innings, the most hits allowed by a Seminole starting pitcher this season.

Demmink recorded his third hit of the night with a single to left-center to begin the fifth, and went to second on a single through the left side by Chalk. Smith then tied the Clemson record for doubles in a game with his third two-bagger of the night down the left-field line to plate Demmink and Chalk. With two outs, Harbin singled through the left side to score Smith.

The Tigers and Seminoles continue their series Saturday at 4:00 PM at Doug Kingsmore Stadium. The game will be televised live by CSS.
