Seminoles Rout Tigers in Game Two

Clemson, SC - Clemson struck first, but Florida State scored 10 unanswered runs to win the second game of the three-game series 10-1 on Sunday afternoon in front of 2,900 fans at Doug Kingsmore Stadium. The game was postponed 43 minutes at the start due to weather. After two minutes of play, the rain delayed the game another 92 minutes.

Florida State improved to 29-16 overall and 8-6 in the ACC while Clemson dropped to 27-16 and 11-6 in ACC play. Brian Schultz earned the win for the Seminoles in his first career start, recording his fifth win against no losses. Robert Rohrbaugh suffered the loss for the Tigers, falling to 3-3 on the season.

Clemson scored a run in the bottom of the second inning. Lou Santangelo led off the inning with a single to right center field. After he stole second base, Russell Triplett singled up the middle to plate Santangelo and give Clemson the 1-0 lead.

Florida State tied the game with a run in the top of the third inning. Matt Sauls and Dennis Anderson both singled through the right side to put runners on first and second. Bryan Zech then hit a groundball to the third baseman. McCann threw to second to force out Anderson, but Storrer threw errantly to first base to allow Sauls to score.

The Seminoles took the lead with two runs in the fourth inning. Eddy Martinez-Esteve led off the inning with a single to left centerfield. Aaron Cheesman followed with a single up the middle. Gibbs Chapman then bunted the runners to second and third and Shane Robinson doubled to left center field to score Martinez-Esteve and Cheesman.

Florida State added another run in the sixth inning for a 4-1 lead. Martinez-Esteve doubled down the left field line to lead off the inning. He advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Cheesman and then scored on Chapman's single up the middle.

The Seminoles took a 5-1 lead in the seventh inning. Pinch hitter Ryne Malone led off the inning with a single through the left side. Sauls then walked and Anderson bunted the runners over. Malone scored on Zech's sacrifice fly ball to right field.

Cheesman hit a two-run home run for the Seminoles in the eighth inning. Martinez-Esteve led off the inning with a single to left center field and Cheesman followed with a homer over the left-field fence.

Florida State increased its lead to 10-1 in the ninth inning on a three-run homer by Stephen Drew. Sauls had an infield hit to lead off the inning and Zech hit a double to right center field. Drew then homered to right field to drive in Sauls and Zech.

Florida State totaled 15 hits, led by Martinez-Esteve and Chessman with three apiece. Triplett had two of the Tigers' five hits. Schultz along with relievers Kevin Lynch and Hunter Davis combined to face just four batters over the minimum. The Seminoles were also aided by their defense, who committed no errors and made several key running catches in the outfield.

The final game of the series between Clemson and Florida State will be played on Monday at 4 PM. Comcast/Charter Sports Southeast will replay the game at 7 PM. Monday night.
