CLEMSON, SC - Clemson center fielder Patrick Boyd attended classes Monday, ending speculation that he would sign a pro contract with the Pittsburgh Pirates, which drafted him in the fourth round of the 2000 amateur draft.

Boyd was the first Tiger selected in the draft and was drafted 119th overall by the Pirates.

The junior from Palm Harbor, FL batted .293 as a junior last year after starting in all of Clemson's 69 games. He had 79 hits, including 21 doubles, four triples and three home runs. As a sophomore, Boyd led the Tigers with a .390 batting average and 17 home runs. Boyd is a .341 career hitter in his three previous seasons with the Tigers.

In 2000, he hit .386 with five doubles, a triple, two home runs and 10 RBIs in nine NCAA Tournament games. He hit a three-run homer in the opening game of the College World Series against San Jose State. Clemson finished sixth in the Collegiate Baseball poll and seventh in the Baseball America poll.
