Charlottesville, VA - Casey Stone and Mike Calitri each had three hits to lead #6 Clemson to a 9-7 win over Virginia in the first game of a doubleheader on May 13 at UVa Baseball Field.

For the second straight game, Clemson (41-13, 16-6) loaded the bases with no outs to start the game. This time, Clemson scored two runs when Henri Stanley walked with the bases full and catcher Mark Rueffert threw the ball away after a force out, plating Khalil Greene.

After the Cavaliers (23-28-1, 9-13) tied the game in the first and took a 3-2 lead in the third, Clemson answered with five runs in the fifth. Pinch-hitter Jarrod Schmidt's double plated Greene and Ryan Riley followed with a key two-run single that broke his 0-for-11 slump.

The Tigers plated two more runs in the eighth on a Mike Calitri single and Bradley LeCroy squeeze bunt.

Virginia made it a game in the ninth, as they loaded the bases after plating a run. But Nick Glaser forced Tim LaVigne to hit into a game-ending 5-3 double play. The save was Glaser's 14th of the season, tying a Clemson single-season record.

Schmidt (8-0) got the win despite allowing seven hits and four earned runs in 5.0 innings. Reliever Jon Metzger (3-5) suffered the loss. Virginia left 12 runners on base to the Tigers' five.

The second game was cut short by inclement weather and will be continued from its stopping point at 1:00 PM on Sunday. Virginia leads Clemson 7-0 in the bottom of the sixth inning in that game. The series finale will start shortly after the conclusion of the suspended game. Greene had two hits in game one and added another in the suspended game two, therefore he has extended his Tiger season-best hitting streak to 13 games.

With the Clemson win and Georgia Tech's two wins over Wake Forest, the Tigers will be the #2 seed in the 27th ACC Tournament to be played at Knights Stadium in Fort Mill, SC from May 16-21. Clemson will play either Virginia or N.C. State at 5:00 PM on Wednesday in the opening round.
