CLEMSON - Doug Hogan's two homers and five RBIs led Clemson to a 9-6 victory over #21 Coastal Carolina in front of 4,314 fans at Doug Kingsmore Stadium on Tuesday. The Tigers (11-6) improved to 37-6 in the series against the Chanticleers (15-3) that dates back to 1986.

Hogan's two home runs were his fourth and fifth of the season and 18th and 19th of his career. It was the third time in his career he recorded a pair of home runs in a single game.

Tiger reliever Justin Sarratt (1-0) earned his first career win, as he allowed one run on three hits and one walk in 1.1 innings pitched. Chanticleer starter David Anderson (3-1) suffered the loss, as he allowed eight runs (seven earned) in 1.1 innings pitched. Cody Wheeler stifled the Tiger bats for 6.2 innings pitched out of the bullpen, as he allowed just one hit, one run, and three walks with eight strikeouts.

Clemson jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Stan Widmann led off the frame with a double down the right-field line. Thanks to both a fielding miscue and then a throwing miscue by first-baseman Rich Witten, Widmann scored and Wilson Boyd reached on a grounder. Hogan then blasted a two-run homer down the left-field line.

In the second inning, Mike Freeman drew a leadoff walk and John Hinson followed with his first career homer, a two-run shot down the right-field line. With one out, Widmann singled to right-center and stole second. Boyd followed with a walk. Hogan then crushed his second home run of the game, a three-run shot down the left-field line.

The Chanticleers got on the scoreboard in the fourth thanks to Witten's first career homer, a three-run shot to right-center.

Coastal Carolina added one run in the sixth inning. With one out, Derek Martin singled to left-center and pinch-hitter Chance Gilmore drew a walk. Rico Noel then beat out a bunt to first to load the bases. Scott Woodward then plated Martin with a sacrifice fly to left.

The Tigers tacked on one run in the eighth inning, as Burgess scored on a sacrifice fly to left by Alex Lee to put the Tigers up 9-4.

With two outs in the ninth inning, Tommy Baldridge lined a two-run homer to center. It was his fourth long ball of the year.

Hogan finished 2-for-5 with two home runs and five RBIs in the win. Hinson added a home run and two RBIs, while Widmann had two hits as well. Boyd's 14-game hitting streak came to an end, as he was 0-for-2 with two runs scored and three walks. Witten and Baldridge led the Chanticleers with multi-run homers.

The Tigers will return to action on Wednesday when they play host to Furman at 7:15 PM.
