Georgia Downs Top-Ranked Tigers, 10-6

ATHENS, GA -- Every Georgia batter had a hit and eight of nine scored at least one run as the Bulldogs (17-10) downed #1 Clemson 10-6 Wednesday night in front of 3.372 fans at Foley Field. Clemson dropped to 23-4.

Georgia starter Bill Sharpton (3-1) pitched a career-high 7.0 innings and struck out a career-high nine, scattering six hits and three runs for the victory with Phillip Sledge and Jeffery Carswell combining to finish the

game for the Bulldog staff. Tiger starter Ryan Mottl (5-1) suffered the loss.

Junior designated hitter Mark Thornhill tied a career-high with four

hits, going 4-for-5 with two RBIs to pace the Bulldogs. Both teams were

scoreless until the third when Georgia went on top 2-0 on a run-scoring

single by left fielder Kris Edge (2-for-4, two RBIs) and an RBI-groundout by Jeff Kepppinger. Georgia would score in every inning that followed including a

two-run single by Thornhill in the fifth that made it 7-2 Georgia.

The Tigers scored single runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth including

on solo home runs by third baseman Khalil Greene (3-for-4, RBI) and left fielder

Henri Stanley (1-for-4, RBI). Casey Stone delivered a two-run triple in the eighth to close the gap to 10-5. Of Clemson's nine hits, six were of the extra-base variety.

The Bulldogs are now 5-0 at home versus top 10 ranked teams. Clemson next plays at #8 North Carolina Friday at 7:00 PM. Saturday's game will start at 2:00 PM.
