CLEMSON - Georgia took advantage of an error by Clemson pitcher Steven Faris to score three unearned runs in the fourth inning Wednesday night and went on to defeat the Tigers, 4-1.

The game was played in front of an announced crowd of 4,394 at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.

Georgia led 1-0 in the fourth inning when Faris, with a runner on second and one out, went airborne to field a high hopper off the bat of Jason Jacobs. But Faris' lob throw to first was well over the head of first baseman Andy D'Alessio and rolled to the screen beyond the Clemson dugout.

A run scored on the play to make it 2-0, and Jacobs wound up at second base. He would score moments later on two-out double by Jonathan Wyatt. Wyatt then rode home on a double by Kyle Keen to make the score 4-0.

Faris (2-1) settled down after that, allowing only two base runners - both walks - the rest of the way in pitching Clemson's first complete game of the season. But the damage was done, and the Tigers' attempted rally in the 9th inning fell short when - with a run in and two on - D'Alessio struck out to end the game.

Mickey Westphal (2-0) was the winning pitcher for Georgia (17-12). The soft-tossing lefty baffled Clemson for seven innings, allowing just four hits while striking out two and walking one. Tiger lefthanded batters were 0-for-11 against Westphal.

Stan Widmann was the only Clemson player with multiple hits, finishing with two singles and driving in the only Tigers' run.

Clemson (15-13) gets back to action this weekend, hosting Duke in a three-game ACC series at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.
