Clemson, SC- Duke scored four runs over the final two innings to defeat #14 Clemson 7-6 on a rain-soaked Monday night at Doug Kingsmore Stadium. Adam Murray singled through the right side to score Michael Golom for the game-winning run in the top of the ninth. The win improved the Blue Devils to 16-29 (2-17 in the ACC), while the Tigers fell to 32-14 (9-8 in the ACC). The game lasted nearly three hours and was delayed 21 minutes for rain.

Murray had two runs batted in to lead the Duke offense. Kyle Frank went 3-for-5 with two RBIs to lead Clemson.

Paul DeMarco (1-0) earned the win for Duke. He pitched the final 1.1 innings and gave up just one hit. Jeff Hahn (3-5) was credited with the loss for Clemson after giving up the final run in relief of starter Patrick Hogan in the ninth. Hogan gave up five earned runs over eight innings, while striking out a career-high 10 batters.

Clemson got on the scoreboard in the second inning. Frank led off the frame with a double to center field, and was then plated after David Slevin slapped a single into center. Slevin now has at least one RBI in four consecutive contests for Clemson.

Duke tied the game at 1-1 after Hogan threw a wild pitch, allowing Golom to score from third. Golom led off the third with a double to right center field. The Blue Devils then took a 2-1 lead after Adam Murray doubled to center field, scoring Javier Socorro on the play. A third run was scored after a ball passed by Brady Everett at home.

Clemson cut the lead to 3-2 in the fourth after Frank singled up the middle to score Brad McCann, who got on base after hitting his team-leading 18th double of the year.

Duke erupted for another three-run inning in the eighth inning. The Blue Devils loaded the bases after a pair of singles and a walk. Then, Frank slipped on a ball hit sharply to centerfield, giving Grant Stanley a bases-clearing triple.

Clemson quickly responded in the bottom of the frame when Russell Triplett hit a line drive homer down the left field line. The two-run shot was Triplett's sixth of the year and cut the Blue Devil lead to 6-4. Three batters later, Kyle Frank also hit his sixth homer of the season, a solo effort that carried over the left field fence. Moments later, David Slevin hit the third home run of the inning for the Tigers. The Tigers had not hit a home run in the series, yet had three in the eighth inning alone.

The Tigers and Blue Devils will decide the series Tuesday night at Doug Kingsmore Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 7:15 PM.
