FLORIDA ST. NO. 1 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL NEWSPAPER (www.baseballnews.com) POLL
TUCSON, Ariz. — Florida St. (25-2) has been ranked No. 1 for the third consecutive time in Collegiate Baseball newspaper’s poll of NCAA Division I baseball. The Seminoles won three straight over the past weekend at home against Duke and have been victorious in 22 of their last 23 games. Florida St. is 8-1 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Seminoles are hitting .332 as a team with 34 homers, 65 doubles and 12 triples in 27 games while stealing 51 of 63 bases. The pitching staff has a superb 2.90 ERA. Poll Notes: South Carolina and Cal. St. Fullerton are currently two of the hottest teams in the nation. The Gamecocks swept a 3-game series against Florida over the past weekend and were 5-0 last week. The Titans swept a 3-game series against Long Beach St. and have won 11 of their last 12. After suffering a tough stretch one week ago, Clemson has now won five in a row. Defending national champion Texas made a significant move this week after sweeping a 3-game series against Oklahoma St. and beating Rice at home. The Longhorns started the year off poorly but have now won four straight and 10 of their last 12. Old Dominion continues to have a superb season with a 25-3 overall record and 14 wins in a row. Teams that suffered a tough week and fell out of the poll this week include Florida (losses in 5 of last 6 games, including 4 in a row), North Carolina St. (4 straight losses), Stanford (0-2), Kansas St. (1-2), Creighton (1-2), and Cal Poly SLO (1-5). The Collegiate Baseball Newspaper poll is the oldest college baseball poll. Its birth took place during the 1957 college baseball season.

DURHAM, N.C.--Mississippi State lost its first game of the season but remained atop Baseball America's weekly college baseball rankings. The 19-1 Bulldogs have held the No. 1 spot for two weeks.
Florida State and South Carolina moved into the Top 5 for the first time on the season. The Seminoles are 25-2 and ranked fourth, while the Gamecocks are ranked fifth at 22-3 after a three-game sweep of Florida. The Gators slid to No. 15 following their fourth straight loss.
Texas beat Rice for the third time this year and then swept Oklahoma State for its 10th win in 12 games to move back into the Top 10. The Longhorns were the preseason No. 1 team.
Kentucky is 4-2 in the Southeastern Conference, its best league start since 1996, and 20-5 overall as it checks in at No. 20. It marks the first ranking for the Wildcats since March 2000. Winthrop, winner of six straight games, moves back into the rankings at No. 24. Miami, which has won 17 of 18 since starting the year 6-6, makes its 2006 debut at No. 25.
