Baseball To Play Host To Charleston Southern Wednesday

Clemson, SC - Clemson, ranked #18 this week by Sports Weekly, will play its first home game of the season Wednesday at 3:00 PM at Doug Kingsmore Stadium against Charleston Southern (3-5). It will mark the opening of the newly renovated stadium. The game will be broadcast live on the radio by WCCP (104.9 FM) out of Clemson and can be heard live via the internet at www.clemsontigers.com. Live stats will also be available on Clemson's website. The Tigers (1-2) are coming off a three-game series at #16 Auburn in which the SEC Tigers took two of three games. Charleston Southern is coming off back-to-back wins against George Mason (5-2) and Marshall (8-7). The Buccaneers defeated #8 South Carolina once in three games in Columbia earlier in the season. Four of their five losses this year have been by a total of eight runs as well. Wednesday's game against Charleston Southern will be the 13th meeting between the two schools. Clemson holds a 12-0 lead in the series dating back to the first game in 1976, a 6-2 Tiger win. Nine of the 12 meetings have been played at Doug Kingsmore Stadium. The two last met on April 8, 1998 at Clemson, a 13-3 Tiger victory. Clemson Head Coach Jack Leggett is 6-0 versus Charleston Southern, all of which have been as the Tiger skipper. Charleston Southern will start sophomore lefthander Robert Swindle (1-0, 4.29 ERA). In 21.0 innings pitched this year, he has allowed just five walks while striking out 28. Clemson will send out Jeff Hahn (0-1) to start the game, but Leggett plans on using a multitude of pitchers during the game. The Buccaneers are hitting .269 as a team and are led by outfielder Jordan Haar. Haar has two homers to go along with a .375 batting average. Brandon Massey, Brian Sole, and Adrian Vanderburg also have two homers apiece. The Tigers are led at the plate by Michael Johnson, who hit two homers in three games at Auburn this past weekend. Garrick Evans came through with seven hits from the leadoff spot during the series as well. The Tigers are hitting .272 on the season with an outstanding .976 fielding percentage. Reserved Tickets Sold Out for Saturday's South Carolina Baseball Game General admission tickets will be available at the stadium at 11:30 AM Saturday. Clemson, SC - Reserved tickets for the Clemson-South Carolina baseball game on Saturday, March 1 at 1:00 PM are sold out according to Ticket Manager Van Hilderbrand. However, general admission/standing-room only tickets will go on sale for $5 at 11:30 AM Saturday at the stadium. Reserved tickets are still available for the Clemson-South Carolina game on Wednesday, April 9 at 7:15 PM. They can be purchased at the Athletic Ticket Office at the northwest corner of Memorial Stadium, via phone toll-free at 1-800-CLEMSON, or online at www.clemsontigers.com. Hilderbrand also announced that season ticket sales surpassed the 1,700 mark, a new school record, and are no longer available this season. General admission tickets for all other home games can be purchased for $5 the day of the game at the stadium.
