After a strike out by Michael Johnson, Steve Pyzik singled to plate Coder and give Clemson a 2-0 lead.

Casey Stone doubled in the third inning to set up the Tiger's third run of the day. He moved to third on a ground out by Jeff Baker to the second baseman and then scored on a fielding error by Wolfpack third baseman Sean Walsh.

Clemson added three runs in the fifth inning to take a 6-0 lead. Baker hit his 19th home run of the season to move into a fourth-place tie for home runs in a season. His two-run blast to right field scored Casey Stone, who led off with a single. Clemson added its sixth run of the game on a Pyzik single that scored Schmidt who had reached on a walk.

GAME 2:

RALEIGH, NC - Justin Riley scored the winning run in the bottom of the
ninth on an infield single to give N.C. State a 4-3 victory in the second
game of a day-night doubleheader at Doak Field. Clemson won the first game
7-6.

With one out in the bottom of the ninth, Brian Wright reached first base on
a Baker's second error of the game and then advanced to second on a passed
ball. Sean Walsh singled to right field and that moved Wright to third base
where he was held by Wolfpack coach Elliott Avent. Jamey Shearin was
intentionally walked by Clemson and then Riley hit a dribbler between third
base and the pitcher that Clemson reliever Kevin Lynn could not field
cleanly and Wright scored the winning run.

Wright got the scoring started for N.C. State in the bottom of the first
inning with a solo home run. The shot over the right field fence was his
10th of the season.

Clemson tied the score 1-1 in the top of the fifth inning. Singles by Zane
Green and Casey Stone sandwiched around an error that allowed Seth Miller
to reach base led to the equalizing run when Kyle Frank grounded to Walsh
who tagged Miller on his way to third. Green scored on the fielder's choice.

After Jeremy Dutton walked to lead off the bottom of the seventh inning,
home plate umpire Bob Gustin removed himself from the game after suffering
from dizzy spells. First base umpire Danny Waller moved behind the plate
and third base umpire Mark McGill took over at first base. ACC umpire Henry
Stancil, who was in attendance at the game took over umpiring duties at
third base in a delay that took 25 minutes.

When play resumed, Kevin Lynn took over pitching duties for Clemson starter
Jarrod Schmidt. Wright doubled off of Lynn to score Dutton. Wright advanced
to third on the throw from right field and was then plated on a sacrifice
fly by Walsh. The go-ahead run was charged to Schmidt as the Wolfpack took
a 3-1 lead.

Clemson got one run back in the top of the eighth on a chop single by Ryan
Riley that scored Jeff Baker, who had reached on the first of three Tiger
singles in the inning. N.C. State's lead was cut to 3-2 until Clemson
manufactured the tying run in the top of the ninth inning. Seth Miller
reached on the Wolfpack's fourth error of the game and then Clemson coach
Jack Leggett inserted Russell Triplett to pinch run for Miller. Triplett
advance to third on a sacrifice bunt by Casey Stone. Frank grounded out to
second base and Triplett scored to even the score.

Josh Miller improved to 3-3 on the year with the victory as the Wolfpack
even its season record at 26 wins and 26 losses. Lynn got the loss for
Clemson as he dropped to 2-2 and the Tigers slipped to 32-18 overall. The
Wolfpack is now 9-14 in the ACC while Clemson fell to 13-7.

Clemson and N.C. State will conclude the three-game ACC series Sunday with
a 1:30 PM matinee.

GAME 1:

RALEIGH, NC - Jeff Baker and Khalil Greene hit home runs to spark Clemson
to a 7-6 ACC victory in front of 1,177 fans at Doak Field.

Baker, a sophomore from Woodbridge, VA, gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead on his
18th home run of the season. The shot over the fence in right-center field
was his 29th career homer, which tied him with Matthew LeCroy for home runs
by a Tiger in his freshman and sophomore seasons.

N.C. State tied it up in the bottom of the second inning. After a single by
Jamey Shearin, David Hicks sent a line drive past Clemson first baseman
Michael Johnson that skidded down the right field line for a triple that
scored Shearin.

Greene broke the 1-1 tie in the top of the fourth inning with his eighth
home run of the season which he hit high off the scoreboard in deep
left-center field. Clemson then added three runs in the fifth inning thanks
to a triple by left fielder Casey Stone that scored Chad Coder and Ryan
Riley and a sacrifice squeeze by Kyle Frank that brought home Stone. Coder
was hit by a pitch and then Riley singled.

The Wolfpack countered with three runs of their own in the bottom half of
the inning on a three-run jack by Sean Walsh to pull within 5-4, but
Clemson again extended its lead to 7-4 with two runs in the top of the
sixth. Khalil Greene, Coder and Riley all doubled in the inning with RBIs
from Coder and Riley.

Jeremy Dutton hit a double to right field that scored Joe Gaetti who led
off the inning with a single. Dutton advanced to third base on a fielding
error by right fielder Kyle Frank and then scored on a sacrifice fly by Walsh.

Steve Reba got the win to improve to 9-3 after he pitched 6 1/3 innings
scattering eight hits while only allowing four runs, three earned. Derek
McKee got the loss to fall to 3-3 on the year after lasting 5 2/3 innings
giving up seven earned runs on eight hits.

Coder led the Tigers with a 2 for 3 performance. Baker, Green and Ryley
also had multiple hits for Clemson. Stone led the team with two RBIs on his
triple in the fifth inning.

Clemson and N.C. State will play the second game of a day-night
doubleheader Saturday night at 7:00 PM and will conclude the series Sunday
at 1:00 PM. Both games will be broadcast on the Clemson Tiger Network.
