Collegiate Baseball Top 30

TUCSON, Ariz. - Louisiana State University is ranked No. 1 for the

second straight week in "Collegiate Baseball" newspaper's NCAA Division

I baseball poll.

The Tigers (9-1) have won seven straight games, including a 3-game

sweep of Texas State over the past weekend. The win streak represents

the Tigers' longest since the 2002 season. LSU's pitching staff has

allowed two runs or less in each of the seven victories as the Tigers

have outscored opponents 71-9 during the win streak.

Poll Notes: Several teams have been red-hot. East Carolina has raced to

a 12-0 start which includes two wins over Clemson. It marks the second

best start in school history. South Carolina is off to a 9-0 record.

The Gamecocks now own five shutouts in nine wins on the season. On

offense, South Carolina has belted 24 homers with a team batting

average of .393.

Notre Dame is 6-0 for the first time in 44 seasons. Texas A&M has

rolled to a 12-1 record - the best start since the 1993 squad opened

the year 15-1. Other teams on a roll include North Carolina State (7

straight victories), and Arizona State, Florida and Mississippi (6

consecutive wins).

The "Collegiate Baseball" newspaper poll is the oldest college baseball

poll. Its birth took place during the 1957 college baseball season.

Baseball America Top 25

DURHAM, N.C.- Stanford, Rice and Louisiana State enjoyed perfect

weeks to remain in the top three spots of Baseball America's Top 25

weekly college baseball rankings.

Notre Dame made the biggest move, rising eight spots to No. 11

after sweeping three games at Florida Atlantic's DoubleTree Diamond

Classic and winning a makeup game against Florida Memorial this

weekend. The 6-0 start by the Irish is its best since 1960. Mississippi

also made a big jump, pushing its way to No. 12 with a 6-0 record

following a second straight weekend series sweep.

Oklahoma and East Carolina both make their poll debuts after each

defeating two ranked teams in weekend tournaments. The Sooners (8-1)

improved to 3-0 against top 25 teams this season after beating Georgia

Tech and Cal State Fullerton at the Kia Bash. The Pirates ran their

record to 12-0 with two wins against Clemson in playing host to the

Keith LeClair Invitational.

Georgia Tech, which lost all three games at the Kia Bash, dropped

eight spots to No. 13. Clemson fell seven spots after losing three of

its first five games, and Baylor fell to No. 25 after having lost five

of its last six.

The staff of Baseball America determines the Top 25 rankings.
