Baseball Committee Imposes One-Game Suspension on Casey Stone |
OMAHA, NEB - The Division I Baseball Committee has imposed a public reprimand and one-game suspension of Clemson University student-athlete Casey Stone for his actions at the conclusion of the Clemson/Louisiana-Lafayette baseball game at the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska on June 14.
The suspension does not apply to regular-season play, but will be enforced at the next NCAA postseason baseball game involving Clernson in which Mr. Stone is eligible to participate. No other individuals from either team were reprimanded or suspended. The committee reviewed tape of the situation and interviewed coaches and players from both institutions before rendering its decision. The committee met with Bobby Robinson, Clemson director of athletics, head coach Jack Leggett and Mr. Stone to inform them of the sanctions The committee noted that Mr. Stone was "contrite and apologetic" about his actions, but the committee also believed his actions met the description of misconduct and thus imposed the reprimand and suspension. The baseball committee also commended the head coach and players from both teams for containing the situation and preventing a further escalation on the field.
