Who got the snaps against the Troy?

by - Staff Writer -

Several freshmen on offense made their Clemson debuts against Troy last Saturday, including three on the offensive line: Tremayne Anchrum, Sean Pollard and John Simpson. Diondre Overton and Cornell Powell also debuted at wide receiver.

In addition to the three true freshmen, Justin Falcinelli and Maverick Morris both saw significant time along the offensive line. C.J. Fuller, D.J. Greenlee and Cannon Smith also made brief appearances.

Trayvon Mullen and K’Von Wallace both received their first snaps on defense. Marcus Edmond made his season debut after missing significant time during fall camp due to a hamstring injury. J.D. Davis and Albert Huggins also saw their first significant action of the season.

The coaches were hoping to get plenty of snaps for players across the board in what was expected to be a Clemson blowout - the Tigers were favored by 30 or more points - but the Trojans hung tough and added two late touchdowns to make the score 30-24. A late onside kick was recovered by Clemson and the Tigers were able to escape with a win.

Coupled with a tight 19-13 win over Auburn to start the season, several of the younger players have yet to get significant playing time, and neither of the backup quarterbacks (Nick Schuessler and Kelly Bryant) have taken a snap through the season's first two games.

Clemson plays host to South Carolina State this weekend in another game the Tigers are supposed to win with ease. Will the younger players get more of an opportunity, or will the Bulldogs make it close and hang around for three or more quarters. That's yet to be determined, so for now we take a look at:
