Tigers offer future five-star prospect

by - Senior Writer -

Raekwon McMillan is a rising junior who is starting to receive attention from all the major programs, so getting an offer on Tuesday wasn’t much of a surprise. Getting one from Clemson, however, was.

The 6-3, 238-pound linebacker prospect out of Hinesville (GA) Liberty County was sitting in class when he got the news that the Tigers had extended a verbal offer.

“I really hadn’t heard anything from Clemson, so I was surprised when one of their coaches, Jeff Scott, came by and made the offer,” McMillian told TigerNet. “He wanted to make sure I knew that Clemson was an up-and-coming program with players like Sammy WatkinsSammy Watkins

The offer from Clemson was his 11th, but he expects more to come in the next week.

“Texas actually called my school today and they were saying that they will be by next week and will offer,” he said. “Alabama is saying they will be by, and Florida is coming up, too. I am hearing from all of those schools a pretty good bit, so I am sure there will be offers.”

He called getting so many offers this early a good experience.

“It has been very humbling and a blessing,” he said. “All of the hard work put in this offseason is finally paying off. When I go around town, people know my face and they call me Big Play Rae. I am having fun with it.”

Several scouting services project McMillan as a 5-star in the next recruiting cycle, and he said that he feels like he is athletic enough to play almost anywhere.

“You can put me at any position and I will make plays,” he said. “All except defensive tackle. I can play defensive end, outside linebacker, middle linebacker or in the secondary. I have a very good overall game. I think I can play very physical at the line of scrimmage with good pad level.”

He said he has taken visits to Georgia, Ohio St., Georgia Tech and South Carolina and plans on taking visits to Auburn, Ole Miss, Alabama, Florida and Clemson before the summer is over. He also has plans to take trips to Texas and Miami.

At this point, however, the Tigers have a little ground to make up.

“The three colleges that are really on me hard are Alabama, Ohio St. and Georgia,” he said. “Right now, those would have to be my top three.”
