Palmetto State's top 2013 prospects - Part 1

The state of South Carolina will be a hotbed for recruiting once again over the next year, with several top-notch prospects for the 2013 recruiting class drawing interest from schools both in-state and from as far away as Oregon.

This is the first of three installments where TigerNet will take a look at some of the top prospects in the state.

*WR Tramel Terry Tramel Terry

Wide Receiver

5-11, 170

Goose Creek, SC

View Full Profile (6-0, 180), Goose Creek – Terry boasts 13 offers, including the Tigers, and camped at Clemson last spring. He committed to Georgia earlier, but withdrew his commitment so he could look around. Many believe he is headed for an SEC school, but in recent conversations with Terry I know he still has Clemson high on his list. High enough that the Tigers can still close strong.

Terry probably favors Georgia and South Carolina [he is being recruited by Steve Spurrier, Jr.] at this point, but does have a good relationship with Clemson recruiter Tony Elliott.

“I have built a great relationship with Coach Elliott,” told TigerNet “I talk to him every week since he came to visit me. We stay in contact all the time. He is really cool. Half the time, we don’t even talk about football – we just talk about life in general. It’s good to have someone like him – who has been where I am – to talk to about things. It’s a credit to him that we have a lot to talk about.”

*WR Mike Williams Mike Williams

Wide Receiver

6-5, 205

Holly Hill, SC

View Full Profile (6-4, 205), Lake Marion - Williams is another in-state wide receiver who camped at Clemson last summer and visited for Clemson’s junior day. As a junior, he had 61 receptions for 1141 yards and 10 touchdowns. As a sophomore, he had 42 receptions. The Tigers offered Williams as a sophomore – back in May of last year – and he will more than likely visit Clemson again in the spring. He has the big body of a receiver that is big enough to go over the middle and the speed to be a threat on the outside. He has offers from Clemson, Georgia, South Carolina and Notre Dame.

*ATH Mykal Moody Mykal Moody

Athlete

5-11, 180

Conway, SC

View Full Profile (5-11, 180), Conway – Moody is a dual-threat quarterback that ran for 1,500 yards in 2011. He is hearing from schools all over the country, including South Carolina, Clemson, Oregon, Alabama and Florida. He’s being recruited for multiple positions, including quarterback, wide receiver and defensive back, but Clemson is recruiting as more of a slot receiver.

He visited the Clemson campus for the most recent junior day, but doesn’t yet have an offer from the Tigers.

"They haven't really stressed to me yet when they will offer me, but they were telling me about the different positions I could play there,” Moody said. “We had little sessions and they had me with the quarterbacks and receivers, and then I spent a little time with the defensive backs, too. But right now, I would love to play slot receiver."

He said that Clemson and Oregon are showing the most interest.

*DL Michael Hill Michael Hill

Defensive Tackle

6-3, 315

Pendleton, SC

View Full Profile (6-3, 315), Pendleton – Hill has offers from South Carolina and Clemson, and is hearing from Auburn, Alabama and Florida. He had 79 tackles – including 27 for loss – and 10 sacks during his junior season. Hill will quickly climb up most junior boards before too long. He took an unofficial visit to Clemson last October, received an offer from the Tigers in November and was on hand for Clemson’s Junior Day on January 28th. He is being recruited by offensive coordinator Chad Morris.

*OT D.J. Park D.J. Park

Offensive Line

6-6, 305

Dillon, SC

View Full Profile (6-6, 316), Dillon – Park was the Gamecocks’ first commitment for the 2013 class, giving his verbal in January. He also had offers from Clemson, LSU and Auburn.

*OL Bryce King Bryce King

6-4, 290

Dillon, SC

View Full Profile (6-4, 290), Dillon – King has offers from USC, Clemson, Virginia Tech, LSU and Tennessee, among others. As a junior, he was first team underclassman All-American by ESPN High School. He took an unofficial visit to Clemson for the Clemson-Auburn game last September, and he also attended Swinney’s camp last June, where he was offered. He visited Clemson for Junior Day, but at this point seems to be favoring South Carolina, even though he had a good time on his Clemson visit.

“It was a lot fun, and I had a good time,” King told TigerNet. “I had a lot of fun spending time with the coaches and exploring Clemson. We got to see the locker rooms with jerseys hanging in it, and then we got to go see The Hill."

He said he still doesn’t have a timetable for a decision.

“There is nobody at the front,” he said. “I am just looking for a place that has a good football program and is a family-type environment.”

*DE Jaylen Miller Jaylen Miller

Defensive Line

6-2, 235

Gaffney, SC

View Full Profile (6-3, 250), Gaffney – I’ve seen Miller play in person, and I think he is the real deal. He can rush with speed off the edge but has no problem in pushing heavier offensive linemen around. He’s hearing from USC, Clemson, N.C. State, Tennessee, Maryland and others. The offers will come for Miller – it’s just a matter of when. He is being recruited by Jeff Scott at Clemson.

*LB Devaris Brunson Devaris Brunson

Outside Linebacker

6-1, 210

Lake City, SC

View Full Profile (6-1, 205), Lake City – Brunson had a fantastic junior campaign, logging 172 tackles, 18 tackles for loss, 10 sacks, an interception, eight forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries. Clemson and South Carolina are showing the most interest to Brunson, but he is also hearing from Tennessee, Florida and Nebraska.
