John Simpson updates his recruitment

One of South Carolina’s top prospects for the 2016 recruiting cycle has been taking his recruitment slow, but as he delves into the summer before his senior season his visits and phone calls are quickly picking up.

claims offers from Alabama, Clemson, Florida, Georgia, LSU, South Carolina and Tennessee, among others.

The Clemson coaches visited Fort Dorchester last week and have talked to Simpson on the phone recently and gave him one piece of advice – continue to explore his options.

“They came to visit me last Tuesday,” Simpson told TigerNet Sunday afternoon. “They have been telling me that they don't want me to make an early decision. They want me to come back and visit some more. They want me to see everything and make sure that Clemson would be what I want. They aren't pushing me too hard. They want me to make the right decision.”

A few Clemson commits, however, have been a little assertive in their recruitment of the 6-4, 288-pound lineman.

talk to me all the time,” Simpson said. “Sean and I talk a lot. When he first committed, I asked him what made him commit. He said that when he went on his visit, he already knew that Clemson was the place for him.”

Simpson has visited Clemson, South Carolina and most recently Florida this spring and he said that he enjoyed the visit to Gainesville

“Last week I visited Florida. I liked the atmosphere at Florida,” he said. “It is kind of like how it is at my school. The recruits that had already committed came up and talked to me and told me how it is down there. The new coaches there are better than what they have had and they keep it real - they let you know if you are going to start or not going to start. They don't sugarcoat anything.”

However, there are still a few places that Simpson said he needs to see.

“I haven't been to LSU or Tennessee,” he said. “Once I go on those two visits, then I will probably make a decision.”

Despite what happens on his future visits, Simpson said that Clemson will be a factor when it comes time for a decision

“Clemson is high on my list. I don't have a top three or a top five or anything, but if I did Clemson would be in my top three,” he said. “It's the atmosphere and the way the coaches and the players carry themselves. The relationship between the coaches and players are so strong.”
