The Clemson coaching staff picked up one of the region’s top slot receivers Sunday evening when Marietta (Ga.) Lassiter’s Ryan Jenkins chose the Tigers over Oklahoma St.

Jenkins, the younger brother of Clemson rising junior defensive back Martin Jenkins, made his commitment known Sunday night at “The Opening,” a high school all-star competition held at Nike’s world headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon.

Jenkins told ESPN that the Tigers had a lot of factors in their favor.

"Because my brother is there already I have a great familiarity with the program, the coaches and the players," Jenkins said to ESPN. "There is a comfort level there that I don't feel any place else. It was going to be hard to turn Clemson down. I really liked Oklahoma State a lot, so it was a tough choice," Jenkins said. "They made me a priority and it's a beautiful school with great facilities, great people and an exciting offense."

Jenkins had recently narrowed his choices down to the Cowboys and Tigers, but also had offers from Miss. St., UCLA, Missouri, Vanderbilt, Washington, Wake Forest and Houston.

Jenkins, who spent last weekend at Clemson, told TigerNet upon his arrival in Oregon that recruiter Tony Elliott told him the Tigers were building a great program.

“Coach Elliott told me that Clemson is building something special,” Jenkins said. “He told me they are building a great recruiting class, and that he wants me to be a part of it.”

Jenkins had previously told TigerNet that he felt like he was a good fit for Chad Morris’ Clemson offense.

“My perfect place is a place where I can have a good relationship with the coaches, and they run an offensive that fits my abilities,” he said. “The Clemson offense is like that, and really anyone that runs a spread like Clemson, Auburn or Oregon. That is the type of offense that fits my skill set – my ability to run with the ball, my hands, and my route running is up there with anyone in the country.”

Jenkins said that Clemson’s family atmosphere stood out to him.

“It really is just the family atmosphere that stands out to me,” Jenkins said. “It is also my relationships with the coaches, relationships that I have had for two or three years now. I am just really comfortable up there.”

As a junior at Milton, he caught 24 passes for 415 yards and six touchdowns.
