Djambo chooses Clemson

View Full Profile added depth to a thin post group Monday evening when Ibrahim Djambo committed to the Tigers.

The 6-10 power forward told TigerNet that he faxed in his national letter of intent to the Clemson coaches Tuesday afternoon, and based his decision off his visit to Clemson during the football team’s spring game weekend, and just needed time to make sure he had made the right decision.

“I decided that I am going to Clemson last weekend,” Djambo told TigerNet. “I don’t think it [the visit] changed my mind, and I knew that I was going to commit after that visit. I just wanted time to sit back and see my other options. But since that visit, my feeling is that Clemson is the place I want to be.”

Djambo is a native of Mali, and he has played the past two seasons at Three Rivers Community College in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. As a sophomore, he averaged 25 points, 9.3 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game.

He will have two years of college eligibility remaining and chose Clemson over Southern Mississippi, Saint Louis and Southern Illinois. He also claims an offer from Kansas State.

He then echoed many of the football recruits’ sentiments when he said Clemson just felt like home.

“It is a nice school. It is a good town with good people,” he said. “I really like the coaching staff and the players on the team and I have gotten to know each other. It is just a place I think I would feel at home.”

He is one of three post players that have been pursued by Brownell during the spring signing period as he tries to replace Devin BookerDevin Booker

One of those Sidy Mohamed Djitte, a 6-10 prospect from Senegal who plays in high school at Fayetteville, N.C. He is expected to choose between Clemson and Cincinnati.

Brownell has also offered 6-7 Donte Grantham of Martinsburg, West Virginia, and is involved with 6-7 Tanner Lancona of Las Flores, Calif., a former Washington State signee who has been released from his commitment.

Djambo told TigerNet that the coaching staff has told him they want him to play the “4-man” spot manned by Milton Jennings last season.

“The guy who was there before, he was a senior and he is leaving,” Djambo said. “The coaches have told me that I can take that place because they don’t have that four guy. The way I play, they don’t have a player like me.”

The 205-pounder said he has the skills of a much smaller player, but knows he has things he needs to work on before enduring the rigors of ACC play.

“I am a 6-10 guy with skills who can play the post or the perimeter,” he said. “I can shoot, I can drive and I can rebound. I need to work more on my ball handling and I need to gain some weight and some strength.”
