Clemson quarterback target might be close to a decision

One of Clemson’s top quarterback prospects might be within a few weeks of making a decision.

Clemson has offered just two quarterbacks for the 2021 class, 5-star Caleb Williams of Washington, DC and 4-star Christian Veilleux of Ontario. Williams has Clemson in his final five. Veilleux has the Tigers in his final four. Many national recruiting analysts are pushing the idea of Williams to Oklahoma. Veilleux has Duke, Penn State and Tennessee in his short list along with Clemson, and he’s within a few weeks, possibly, of making his decision.

Veilleux took unofficial visits to each of his finalists. In a perfect world, he would visit each again and then make his decision later in the summer. But this is not a perfect world right now and recruiting calendars are in flux. Veilleux feels recruiting closure for him is coming sooner than he had originally planned.

“I don’t think that when we can take visits is going to fit into my time frame,” Veilleux said. “I won’t be able to get the visits that I wanted to get in. So, I think May is really the month that I’ll make a decision. I mean, I don’t even know that May is going to be the month for sure, I just think it’s going to be soon just because I know I can’t take any visits. That’s why I said May. I don’t have a specific date. I just know that in the next few weeks I think probably I’ll do it.”

All four schools continue to work Veilleux diligently through the various means open to them...…phone calls, texting, direct messaging, Zoom, Facebook. Veilleux said he’s in touch with Clemson coaches multiple times a week.

“I’ve been in constant contact with those guys,” Veilleux said. “I call them two or three times a week. We’ve been communicating a lot. Nothing new really. It’s been the same message. They just want me to know that I’m a priority for them. It’s been a consistent message.”

The finish line is drawing near for Veilleux, but the ultimate choice is not yet clear in his mind.

“They are all pretty equal,” Veilleux said. “They’ve been recruiting me hard.”

Veilleux is ranked by the 247Sports composite as the #15 pro-style quarterback in the country for the 2021 class. He’s ranked as the #13 prospect in Maryland, where he attends school. Last season he passed for 1700 yards and 17 touchdowns, and he rushed for 400 yards and 4 touchdowns.
