Diondre Overton The 6-5, 195-pound 2016 athlete is a top-priority for Clemson in the 2016 recruiting cycle and Overton told TigerNet recently that his trip to Clemson as well as visits from the coaches have shown him just how much he is wanted by the Tigers. “Just the coaches – how involved they were with us from the time we walked in until we left,” Overton told TigerNet. “They were really involved and that shows that they really care about us and want us to come to Clemson.” Overton attended Clemson’s elite junior day last month and he said that seeing everything the Tigers have to offer on the athletic and academic sides really opened his eyes. “The visit went great. I really loved everything about it – running down the hill, the whole campus and everything around there,” Overton said. “We also got to see the academic side of it and I really like how the classes are set up and how the apartments are set up. My mom really loved it. That was the first visit she’s been on and she really liked it.” The 3-star prospect has visited North Carolina and North Carolina State in addition to Clemson, but as of right not the Tigers hold a sizeable lead. “This visit really showed me where everything stands,” he said. “Now I have Clemson at the top of my list, because I feel like that is the best fit for me as of right now but I’m going to take more visits to really explore my options. I know Clemson, North Carolina and North Carolina are in my top group, but I’m going to have to take visits to see Tennessee and Virginia Tech.” One of the highlights of the trip was seeing
Brad BrownellBrad Brownell “They told me that I could play both [basketball and football],” Overton said. “They said I could try it out my freshman year and if I didn’t like I could just stick to football my sophomore year. I definitely have options. It was really exciting to see the basketball game. I like the way they play and I feel like I could fit in on the basketball team.” The Clemson coaches are very supportive of Overton’s basketball career, even showing up at one of his basketball games. “It was really amazing,” he said. “It showed me that they really care want to support me on the basketball court and that they really want to get me down there.” Overton had 62 catches for 1,187 yards and eight touchdowns last seasons.
