5-star receiver Tee Higgins breaks down his Top 3 after Clemson visit

Tee Higgins spent three days on Clemson’s campus this past week, a visit the Clemson coaches hoped would give the Tigers some momentum for the 5-star wide receiver out of Oak Ridge (TN).

Higgins traveled to head coach Dabo Swinney’s high school camp for the second session, and spent time with good friend, Clemson commit and fellow wide receiver Amari Rodgers. He also spent time and worked out with former fellow Tennessee commit and 5-star quarterback Hunter Johnson, including doing 1-on-1 work with the Brownsburg (IN) signal caller.

Higgins said camp went as well as could be expected.

“It was pretty good. It was pretty fun. Just getting to work with Coach (Jeff) Scott on some of the receiver drills really stood out,” Higgins said. “I think I performed pretty good. I just came off of an injury so I wasn't exactly full speed, but I think I did pretty good coming off of a hamstring injury.”

Higgins said spending time with Rodgers and Johnson was a bonus.

“That was great,” he said. “It was good to work out with those guys. Amari is a great receiver and Hunter is a great quarterback. Being able to be out there with them was a lot of fun.”

Higgins also got to spend valuable time with Scott – Clemson’s wide receivers coach and co-offensive coordinator – and got several opportunities to ride around with Swinney in the head coach’s personal golf cart.

What was their message?

“It was energetic and a full-press,” Higgins said. “But they want me to make the best decision for me.”

Higgins’ only other visit this summer has been to Tennessee, and he hopes to make it to Columbus to visit Ohio St. in July. Other than that, he said he doesn’t have a solid set of plans, but he does know where the Tigers, Vols and Buckeyes stand heading into mid-summer.

“I'm not sure when I'll make a decision. The visit helped for Clemson,” he said. “Tennessee is still number one right now. Clemson made it closer. Tennessee, Clemson and Ohio State are the top three right now, but I'm also looking at Florida State and Ole Miss.”

Higgins is also considering playing basketball in college, but Clemson’s coaching staff hasn’t reached out to talk hoops.

“I didn't talk to any of Clemson's basketball coaches,” he said. “Basketball is still kind of important.”

A month ago, Higgins released a top ten that included Michigan, Ohio State, Florida State, Georgia, Tennessee, Clemson, Notre Dame, Alabama, LSU and Ole Miss.

In 2015, he had 46 receptions for 841 yards and 16 touchdowns. The playmaker was the first freshman to start at Oak Ridge since 2002 and had 23 catches for 387 yards and six touchdowns for the undefeated Wildcats in 2014.
