Mickey Plyler on Chad Smith: Most coaches have issues at linebacker in today's game. If they put in the bigger linebacker the offense can expose him in space. If they put in the faster linebacker the offense can power right at him. Smith is a rare linebacker who has size but runs really well. I think he has a chance to play this season as a true freshman. He is very natural in space and in his cover skills.

Reminds Plyler of: Billy Davis

As a junior, he earned Conference 21, North Region and Group 4A first-team honors. For the season, he had 95 tackles (13 for loss), 3 quarterback sacks, 5 interceptions and 2 fumble recoveries.
