Four-star cornerback Sheridan Jones (Norfolk, Va.) announced a Clemson commitment on social media Friday night (watch the video below). The Tigers were previously in a final group of seven teams with Alabama, Tennessee, Nebraska, Virginia Tech, Ohio State and South Carolina.
Jones visited Clemson for Elite Junior Day in January and then made a return trip for the spring game last week.
He reclassified from the 2020 class, where he was the No. 1-rated cornerback, to 2019 in January.
“As soon as I announced that I am a junior - they said that I jumped ahead of a lot of guys,” Jones said of Clemson’s recruitment at the time. “I knew that Clemson was a top-tier football team, but meeting coach Swinney and seeing his perspective on things, it changed my mind about a couple things. He’s really all about his players and he wanted to make sure they were good people before they were good football players.”
Jones earned both freshman and sophomore All-American honors at Bishop Sullivan (Va.) and will play for hometown Maury High School in Norfolk this season.
“He is the complete package and is one of the most physical corners in the game,” Maxpreps wrote after Jones' sophomore campaign.
He is the sixth commit in the last eight days for Clemson’s 2019 class and brings it into the double-digits, with 10 members. The Tigers’ 247Sports Composite team recruiting ranking moved up from ninth to sixth overall (174.76 rating), not far behind Texas A&M and the top-five (178.06).
