Thanks for the update David. I can see Trenton being one of the feel good stories for announcers during our games later on in his career. Kirk Herbstreit 2021: "Trenton was a guy the staff moved in on late in his recruitment process and obviously they are very happy they did with how dominant he is playing this season". Something along those lines.

247 has Simpson as the #3 OLB, ESECPN has Simpson as their #11 OLB, Rival has him as #2 OLB. So IMO, Simpson was a good get at the last moment. I think that our last minute get was ETN, and look how he has turned out, in the opinion of many of the talking heads, ETN is one of the best RBs in the country!!!

I wouldn’t put it quite like he was a good backup plan. I think he will most likely be the hidden gem in this cycle and I’m stoked he chose Clemson. I’m a little miffed how we missed going with him from the beginning... players like that you find a place like him.
I see people saying we’d find a place for Flowe if he committed... just curious why we don’t feel the same for Simpson. I do.

Back up plan, hidden gem...

Simpson been a known commodity nationally for some time. "Back up plan", truthfully we just got lucky, imo. Simpson recieving an offer should have NEVER been dependent on Flowe saying no, both should have been takes. (unless we sign another OGw/ an offer list of mostly Gof5 schools & a filled pos. )

he never tries to be the first to report because he does what real journalist do and goes and gets the truth. Only a couple times he has been wrong about a recruit and so was everyone else.

Good synopsis. Pretty apparent that we are not getting Flowe or Burch. Simpson is a great counterpunch. Nice to have a five-star “backfill”.
The only real disappointment will be if we don’t get Henderson.

Burch's Mom works for UofSC...duh. Did I not read that Southern Cal received a notice of allegations? Not that it means anything relating to Clemson and Flowe. Just asking.

I get this kid is both a special talent and young man. He has the right to choose the place where he feels most comfortable and that checks the most boxes for him. I wish him well anywhere he goes but...The heralding by and firm guidance from his mother may be reminiscent of past “almost “ players for Clemson. Geno Smith’s mom, the Nkemdiche brother’s mother, Rashaun Gary’s mother all had a tremendous influence on where their sons would eventually commit. Not implying anything nefarious or illegal, they each just had a strong opinion/choice as to where they wanted their kids to go for whatever reason. It appears, Burch’s mother , while I’m sure an awesome lady, is in complete control of his “choice” and that’s okay. My point is this, we’ve seen this scenario play out in the afore mentioned examples from the past and it ended up working out well for all involved, Clemson for sure. Just my take.

I just don’t see any bad guys on the Flowe situation.

Of course we want every recruit to want to come here and I think we aren’t being too biased when we say that spending three or four years on Clemson’s campus is a great time, and that a football player can reach all their goals from here...better than from a lot of places (education, fun, success in college and success at the next level).
Having said that, it’s just not always for everyone. And a talented kid from the other side of the country who feels more comfortable in a larger town should go where they think they’ll be happy. Nothing wrong with that. And if that’s truly how he feels, I’d rather he followed his heart rather than coming to Clemson possibly not “All In.”
If it goes this way, I wish him well.

Justin Flowe is the best LB I’ve ever seen coming out of high school! Check out his film if nothing else but for entertainment. I couldn’t quit watching this kid play.
We had a reason for waiting on him an I realize we needed to move on but man can this kid play LB.
I wish him well, I know moving cross country away from his mama can be tough.

Great move mom! When is the last time you heard his name mentioned in the football world? The Burch situation is a mirror image of this? Any kid with his skills who can’t see what the Tigers have to offer is beyond help. I wish him well If he goes elsewhere. If he end up at Clemson, the sky’s the limit. Surely he and his mom can see this

Uh, the last time I heard his name mentioned was on Sundays in the NFL.
So, perhaps mom did get what she wanted.

a spot at linebacker for a player the caliber of Flowe? It would just be one spot at one position, and a lot of stuff happens (attrition) as we all know.

If Clemson signed Flowe, we would have the #1 Inside Linebacker and the 1# Outside Linebacker for 2020. Wouldn't that be a thing to behold! Not to mention #1 DE in the country with Breesee. No matter what happens, we are pretty stacked on skill players.

The reality is Simpson is a GREAT LB and was ready to commit; Flowe was obviously non-committal. Easy decision in my view. If Flowe wants in, we will find a way to make room.

I’m probably in the minority, but I’d rather have Simpson than Flowe. Simpson looks like a guy who genuinely has the team-first mentality, whereas Flowe looks to be all about himself to me. Looking at his Twitter account and his highlight reel, he just seems like he could be a headache. I could be wrong, but that’s how it seems to me.
I never thought Burch seemed interested in Clemson, at least based on pics of him at the All-In Cookout. He (and Flowe, for that matter) looks extremely talented, but Clemson can’t land every 5-star.

Having flashback to the Nkemdiche situation. Did Clemson suffer because a highly prized recruit decided that another program was a better fit for him? No.
So let the kids make their decisions and then let’s play ball. The worst possible outcome is not missing out on a great talent. The worst outcome is landing a great talent who then resents being in the program and becomes toxic and resentful.
It’s far better to let go and coach up the amazing level of talent we’re landing these days. Does anyone remember just a few years ago when we literally had zero 5* recruits?
I hope we get everyone we want, but If we miss out on them, that’s their loss, not Clemson’s.
