Being 32 I didn't realize how good Skip Wise was...

He was smooth as silk.***

Oh he was great, we've had a number of b ball players that were fun to watch. Tree Rollins, the mahaffeys, Skip etc. And there was nothing better than a game in the old field house, if you never went to one of those you really missed it. The FB team would really work over the opponents, made the other coaches so mad ??

Skip Wise was so smooth, that we all saw him travel with the ball, and the refs didn't even call it. It somehow just looked natural. The absolute best BBall player to wear ORANGE.

He was not only a tremendous talent and smooth. When he and Phil Ford went up against each other once in a game at Clemson, Skip was clearly better than Phil Ford. What a talent! Sad his career ended the way it did.

One other memory I have of Skip(if my memory serves me correctly) is that in his very first game he was good but not great. In his second game it was clear that he was a superstar.

announcement that Wise was leaving to go to the Baltimore Claws (and he only saw a tiny percentage of the money that lured him away) were probably the most optimistic I've ever felt about Clemson basketball---and I been going to games since the 50's.

Though it now seems like a fleeting moment, for just that very short period of time Clemson had a helluva future staring us straight in the face.....course, back then, most players stayed their entire period of eligibility.

Yes, you're correct. I thought Clemson basketball ball was headed toward the big time then, too.
Remember when we almost had Moses Malone coming to Clemson.
