needs at RB. Again, some seem to feel we failed at RB recruiting this year, while I believe our coaches took simply took a gamble they felt was worth it and could afford to lose.

For a player to be so antsy as to not be able to wait on White is a bit hard to understand.
We aren't talking December. We are talking the summer before signing day.
When Clemson explains their small numbers, that they believe in honoring their word, and that they have a huge interest in other players, then other players have plenty of time to wait.
I think the fact that Clemson was honoring their offer as the only one until that player made a decision was used by other schools to create a narrative for other RB recruits to snub Clemson's interest later on.
Recruits would do well to take a step back and consider their options from someone with nothing to gain (and who cares for them).
