Best Is The Standard

One of the things I noticed my freshman year in 1965

Feb 4, 2015, 6:28 AM

was the camaraderie among Clemson alumni returning for campus events, regardless of the type, as well as the numbers constantly visiting the campus.

Despite years and distances away from Clemson among the alumni, it seemed there was a special bond to the university and each other along with a fierce sense of protection. In other words you didn't speak negatively of the school or of each other publicly, and you supported our programs as best you could.

I attributed those attitudes to the remoteness of the school, its relative small size and to the Corps, which had existed for most of Clemson's history.

Clemson is a different university today; however, to me there still exists much the same feelings of allegiance, the participation of alumni in campus events and a strong sense of protection. To this day I detest negative publicity and regularly refuse to speak publicly against Clemson. I remain loath to speak against Clemson alumni, preferring to keep disagreements to myself. And like most other alumni I am as happy as a lark every time I set foot on our campus.

There's just something in those hills.........................
