worthy of national attention once they became consistently competitive! Before this stupid streak started, when we were kicking their collective keisters year-in and year-out, it was only considered a noteworthy rivalry within our state (sorta like LBB says above).
I'm pretty ###* sure I preferred those days! [Sigh!]

I was once told by my Grandfather that Frank Howard said, "South Carolina? They're no rivalry. Furman is a rivalry, but South Carolina is just another game."

but over the years ole Tom's statue has been painted a number of times while S.C.'s library reflection pool has been orange-dyed.
Then, there have been the block C's shaved into the heads of S.C. students, while Clemson boys have had their behinds whacked with potent paddles. Both schools have had their roving, motorized and foot patrols on the lookout for "errant" visitors, and the wars of words have been epic.
Historically, who could doubt the uniqueness of the infamous Clemson Cadet/SC student confrontation at the Horseshoe in the early part of the last century? Cadets forming with bayonets fixed, and Carolina students armed with loaded pistols at the ready....They should have made a movie of that!
Ours is a rivalry befitting our small state; one steeped in the history of both schools; one reminiscent of the Civil War in which family and friends were pitted against each other. One that brings out the best and worst in all of us, spills over into the next year, and is begrudgingly carried on into the next match.
I wouldn't trade it for any other, and frankly, I think it's become much better with both schools fielding better teams.
