Belmont's 3-point shooting ability presents challenge for Tigers in NIT

The Clemson basketball team hosts Belmont in the quarterfinals of the NIT Tuesday night in Littlejohn Coliseum, and the Bruins are a 3-point shooting, fast-paced team, something that Clemson hasn't seen a lot of this season. (Jim Brown-USA TODAY Sports) Full Story »

Hmmm, that game was decided by how many points with 9 seconds left in the game. Oooops, that's right, it was a no story.;)

The two teams are much different imo

Belmont has made 311 total 3's while Illinois connected on just 188. Belmont averages 80.2 PPG while Illinois avgs 64.6.

Here's a small look at most 3's made on each team.
Belmont
Mann 75
Windler 67
Bradshaw 54

Illinois
Ekey 51
Rice 44
Nunn 30

I agree that we have an excellent 3 point defense not to mention how good we are at D in general. But these guys are going to launch some 3's. Their second best 3 shooter, Drew Windler, is a 6-9 forward so we gotta get a hand up. I think the key is pressuring the shots and defensive rebounding. We got this. Go Tigers

You say that like we're the reason Illinois missed their threes. They had wide open shots all morning; we just got incredibly lucky they all missed in the first half.

I was thinking the same thing. They got a ton of wide open

looks and shots, just couldn't connect. Our perimeter defense was pretty lousy. Illinois was just plain cold.

I notice that our perimeter D extends about 3 ft further out than most teams do.

It must have been the crowd or the sightlines in LJ, b/c mos

t of their misses from three were on wide-### open shots.

If we leave Belmont open that often, they will make us pay.

But that being said, I think it's a good matchup for us b/c usually we defend that really well.

Brownell Translation: They gotta bunch of white boys
