I remember the shoe store being there during my days at Clemson. Next door was the original Judge Kellers I believe and Dans was on the corner. They had the only t.v. in town. Used to sit in there on sunday evenings and watch Bonanza and wondered if the real world was better than this!!!

Shoe store still exist today. The store was owned by Morris Newton, family still owns it today. Moved from this location to building now housing Wingin'It, next door to The Greek Gallery. Moved from there in the late 70's to the Clemson Shopping Center on Hwy. 76. Not sure when but name was changed to Newton's Shoes sometime before or when store moved to Clemson Shopping Center. Store moved to the Walmart shopping center about 5 or 6 years ago. Judge Keller's has been in the same location it is in now since it opened. The store next to Dan's and around the corner from the shoe shop was Sloan's Men's Store. I know because my dad's barber shop, James Barber Shop, sat at the fork of the Hwy 93 and College Ave. in front of Sloan's and Dan's.

You are right about Sloans. Probably the first Clemson store where you could buy a Tiger sweat shirt!
