Looking for Clemson/Carolina Rivalry Stories

Hey all,

My name is Nathan, and I'm a documentary filmmaker from Greenville. For the longest time I've wanted to make a documentary about the Clemson/Carolina rivalry. It's a bit of a personal story for me. My grandfather (diehard Carolina fan) died of a heart attack listening to the Carolina/Clemson game in 1984 because he got too upset. This is obviously a sad story, but I think it captures how serious this rivalry is for the fans of either team. I'm sure a lot of Clemson fans don't look at it as much of a rivalry since it's been forever dominated by Clemson. <img border="> Regardless I'm looking for similar stories from both sides. Any suggestions from anyone? Do you know of any eccentric super fans? Someone who died or got seriously injured due to the rivalry? Someone who might be dying soon and their last wish is to go to one final game or to have their ashes scattered in Death Valley? Other stories about the rivalry that might help others understand how serious Gamecock or Tiger fans take this? Please respond to this thread or email me at nathanwillisfilms@gmail.com.

Thanks!

Why don't You expand You documentary to include stories from fans. For example 1 year in the 80's my dad and sister a Clemson grad from 1980 went to DV without tickets. My sister bought hers and then met up with my dad. He still had no ticket. A coot fan had managed to squeeze through the gates without his ticket being taken. The coot fan knew my dad was trying to get in so he called him over to the fence and gave him the ticket. What are the chances of that happening today. The coot fan would probably tear up the ticket right in front of my dad.

Maybe document and interview the former coaches, players andfans. Note changes in the relationship between the Clemson and Carolina rivalry. Put some positive spin in your documentary. Cover some of the great games like the Orange pants game in 1980 when Danny Ford's job was on the line, or the push off catch by Rod Gardiner. The fight in 2003 lead to a 63-17 in DV or Danny's last game at WB where Clemson won 45-0.

To be honest I am not sure I want to watch a documentary about people going nuts over a football game. It would interesting to include some of those stories but for that to be the main theme of your documentary it would not interest me.

Good luck with you documentary. IMO it could be a huge success for you made with the right content.
