How can you say the game was stopped before the game was...
Apr 21, 2008, 9:19 AM
|
|
actually stopped? When stoppage in play occurs it helps when the players, coaches, and even the home plate umpire know about it. If the game was actually being played when Parker hit his homerun then, guess what, the game wasn't stopped. I am positive that you cannot make a stoppage in play retroactive just because you SHOULD have stopped it sooner. It could have been poring cats and dogs and lightening all over the place but play doesn't officially stop until, and I know this is tough to grasp, play actually stops.

Wish we didn't put ourselves in this kind of situation to have to depend on a Duke baseball ground's crew to cover up the field.

Sadly, this kind of garbage has been happening on tobacco road for decades. It hasn't always been as blatant, but it has happened nonetheless. The only way it will ever change is when the 8 non-NC schools finally man up and do something about the balance of power in this conference.

I just sent e-mails about the game to the coach and athletic director at duke. If you want to here are their addresses
alleva@duaa.duke.edu smcnally@duaa.duke.edu
Dan Scott detailed the events in his article and maybe Dan you could forward it to the NCAA ?

email sent:
TO: alleva@duaa.duke.edu, smcnally@duaa.duke.edu
"Dear Sirs,
After the classless act on Sunday afternoon, there is not much that can be done to repair the damage caused to your distinguished university's athletic program.
You can, however, issue a public apology to both the Atlantic Coast Conference and to Clemson University.
Thank you"
Whooptedo: thank you for providing these email addresses.

What a bad piece of journalism! Sounded like something a Gamecock would write about a stroke of bad luck.

I could see how some might view this article as sour grapes, but if that is how things went down Sunday in Durham, then this is one of the saddest examples of sportsmanship I've seen in a while. Duke's team, coaches, and staff should be ashamed of themselves.
I agree with johnnyboy - we should show them no mercy on the football field!

Forget Duke's AD, this is a conference matter

Something egregious like this (not necessarily what happened, but the fact that it seems as though it was deliberate) needs to be handled by the conference office. Sadly, our conference is run by the state of North Carolina, but I'd really REALLY hope they could get this one right. The least they should do is issue a statement verbally reprimanding the behavior.
Sure it's hollow, but that's at least what we got for that clock fiasco. I don't see this as anything less significant.

the ACC.
I say we contact FSU, and the SEC and try to work a deal. Get us out of this joke of a conference.

Now THERE'S a thought.....

I get tired of this conference's Mickey Mouse B S. Every year, we get royally screwed over by Mr Swafford and his band of thugs in that a NC team can get away with anything short of murder. Don't ever expect him to do anything that would rate as a positive for us. Not being a pessimist--it's simply the way it is.
