Boston College loses in laugher...

Aw, man. It really hurts my heart to see America's team go down to NCState like that. Word to the wise, your luck was bound to run out anyway.

Why are we behind FSU in the Coaches' poll?

Sep 24, 2006, 11:58 PM

Spurrier probably left us off, or voted us 25. He might have even left BC ahead of us. At least the writers had enough sense to put us back ahead of FSU.
Are all coaches' and writers' ballots made public? Is there a website or another source for this information?

We are ahead of BC because people take in account how much you lose by, and how you lose. Plus it does not matter anymore because BC lost to a poor team. Clemson is playing the best football right now in the ACC even compared to VT who has not played a single team close to the top 25.

I sure hope the Wake game will be on TV on 10/7.

Well, for all those upsets, we didn't move much in the polls. But, N.C. State certainly made things much easier for us by beating B.C. I thought Sagarin's ratings were very interesting, particularly with respect to Wake Forest. Also interesting to see how much better Florida State, Miami and Georgia Tech are in the polls versus the computer analysis. This shows Sagarin's ranking first, AP second and USA Today third. I've added ACC record and key remaining Top 25 games in parentheses.

Atlantic
18/18/19 Clemson (2-1, Ga. Tech, @Va. Tech)
24/26/25 Boston College (1-1, Va. Tech, @FSU)
25/19/17 Florida State (1-1, BC, Florida)
27/36/36 Wake Forest (1-0, Clemson, BC, @FSU, Va. Tech)
53/NR/NR NC State (1-0, FSU, Ga. Tech, @Clemson)
65/NR/NR Maryland (0-0, @Ga. Tech, FSU, @Clemson, @BC)

Coastal
11/11/10 Virginia Tech (2-0, Ga. Tech, @BC, Clemson)
41/27/32 Miami-Florida (0-1, @Ga. Tech, Va. Tech, BC)
46/24/31 Georgia Tech (1-0, @Va. Tech, @Clemson, @Georgia)
79/NR/NR Virginia (0-1, @FSU, @Va. Tech)
80/NR/NR North Carolina (0-2, @Notre Dame, Ga. Tech)
128/NR/NR Duke (0-2, FSU, @BC, @Ga. Tech)

Even with the N.C. State win over B.C., to compete for the ACC title, we still need to win out our ACC matches, since Florida State has such a comparatively weak remaining schedule.

Our remaining schedule:
Sat, Sep 30 (112/NR/NR) Louisiana Tech
Sat, Oct 7 at (27/36/36) Wake Forest
Thu, Oct 12 (171/NR/NR) Temple 7:30 p.m.
Sat, Oct 21 (46/24/31) Georgia Tech
Thu, Oct 26 at (11/11/10) Virginia Tech ESPN 7:45 p.m.
Sat, Nov 4 (65/NR/NR) Maryland
Sat, Nov 11 (53/NR/NR) North Carolina State
Sat, Nov 25 (64/NR/NR) South Carolina
