Dang. Unrealized potential gone.

Guess the setback from surgery never let him fully get where he needed to be

put too much stock in the "value" of a single recruit. If you land a bevy of top notch talent... kudos. But to suggest that one player is going to be the one to get it done in any sport... is just a setup for disappointment.

Tough break for Clemson as well as this kid. Here's hoping he has success in the future.

You don't have a clue what you are talking about coot!

Jul 14, 2006, 4:17 PM [ in reply to THIS is a perfect example of why you shouldn't ]

Mathis has been slowed due to his injury and really can't compete at an ACC level now. He is not half the player he was before the injury. There was even talk that he may have to quit playing altogether

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

How does that change my point?

Jul 14, 2006, 4:21 PM

When a "great" recruit is picked up and the fanbase goes nuts over how well he's going to contribute we have no idea if he's a headcase and will flunk out, or if he is going to get injured.

I didn;t crack on Mathis. The same thing could happen to any top level recruit which is why we should temper our enthusiasm.

Preach it on SCar boards before you preach it here.

Two faced tool.

There's no such thing as a stupid question, just stupid people who ask questions.

Well, it opens up a spot and hopefully he will do well

Re: Troy Mathis to Transfer from Clemson

i wish troy nothing but the best - and am 100% behind OP -

but this decision woulda/coulda/shoulda been better after the fight from a couple of years ago..he got away with a pretty serious one, there..and i wouldn't have said it if i didn't know that it was true.

GoTiguhs!!

Trust me it was mutual.........................

Jul 14, 2006, 9:32 PM

Troy can compete much better at a lower level than the ACC now and he was not going to get much playing time. He is not the same player he was when he came to Clemson as he lost that first step. It was not his fault and I wish him the best.

I don't care who we get in replacement, I just want us to...

Jul 17, 2006, 9:17 AM

beat UNC at Chapel Hill. If we lose every other game, I would still be happy with a win over the Tarholes at UNC
