is the number of potential deaths resulting from the disaster is subject to debate. I've seen some projections as low as 4,000 and others as high as 985,000.

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.


And, that radioactive core will be with us a few more

The Japanese did a study about Chernobyl about 10 years afterwards. Found that very few people died from radiation - only those that went in to work on the fire. Others who breathed in radioactive iodine, which has a very short half-life, could develop thyroid issues that were treatable. By far the worst part of Chernobyl was the psychological effect it had on everyone in Ukraine and western Russia, causing depression and despair that led to far more deaths than the radiation.
