Morris says Stoudt is the starter, Watson is the future
Offensive coordinator Chad Morris said that freshman quarterback Deshaun Watson is the future, and that he thought Watson did well in his first collegiate action. But Morris said that Stoudt didn't do anything to lose the job, and is the Tigers' unquestioned starter. Full Story » |

Just like DJ Howard is the present. This player loyalty crap has to stop.Dabo will sacrifice wins in order to play the upperclassmen, regardless of talent behind them.I honestly believe Gurley would be splitting carries with Howard right now if he would've came to Clemson

To go with the guys with experience, it has nothing to do with loyalty. Why can't some off you understand this?

Play the best players! Watson has a better Armand is better under pressure. This isn't high school. Davison is better than Howard and Gallman should be next man up

And they kept playing Howard! Probably not even a div. 1 caliber player. With Choice sitting on the bench, along with our best QB. How did that work for us?

Even if they lack any significant degree of talent? Where did that get us on Saturday. Many team play talented freshmen with great success. This is just some sort of perverted loyalty politics that is costing us dearly. Stupid.

I like Dabo, but he just doesn't seem to get it. Loyalty doesn't win games, performance does. Our best players sitting on the bench makes no sense. Still, our Ol is terrible, and I don't think that can be fixed.

The old loyalty politics at play here again. Watson is the beat QB by far. Yes, coaches can be dumb. Just like continuing to pretend that DJ Howard is really a Div. 1 running back. Hello?

Yeah. Anyone objectively watching the two QB's can clearly see Cole has no escapability and gets locked onto his receivers. I feel bad for him , because he has paid his dues, but Watson is smoother, has better feet and looks to have plenty of arm.

I still think Watson would be a better quarterback. When he got in he went straight to work and scored. I think Watson is gonna be a good leader for our team and he is the quarterback that we have been needing a long long time. 2015 is gonna be a great year for us I can already see it.

You think we will be good on 2015. Unless cursed with injuries 2016 will be our year to be unstopable. Watson as a Junior along with Scott/Kitt. Williams/GHop (if they don't leave). Plus Cain and Mcloud. That's just the skill position. Add all the 4/5 stars on the O-Line and it will be a st

"paid his dues"...? sort of like PC, where today we give trophies to all the kids, so nobody feels bad. right? and everyone is happy and has a fitter, more productive life. i want some wins- bring on the Freshman. we didnt get a 5star to have him sit. especially with this O-line. see Drew Blessoe and Tom Brady. feel GOOD

Very puzzling comments by Chad Morris
Aug 30, 2014, 11:14 PM
|
|
Not even sure what to make of CM's comments.
Stoudt is a Sr. who's been in the system for a number of years, practiced against our first team D, etc.
Chad's comments are something I would expect for him to say about a 17 years old HS kid playing for the first time.
In fact, Chad's play calling and what he's saying in post games comments are totally contradictory. Zero confidence in Cole to actually open up the playbook. Very predictable. Abandoned the pass. How is this consistent with an OC who's so proud of his QB, etc.
Top receiver with only 3 catches. Didn't see Cole really reading the defense, or making audibles, etc.
Cole gets one quarter vs SC State, then the other 3 to DW.

And Adam Choice gets all the snaps. In fact, Howard wouldn't even have to dress out. Give him the noon-er off, it will be to hot out there for a senior RB.

if the staff is willing to forfit some of the season to be more patient with Cole.
I'm not saying, throw CS to the wolves. But as I have said for almost a year now. He is wayyy too valuable as a backup- hence forth, Watson's time is now. Even if that means early struggles. #21

You do realize that Morris calls any audibles don't you? That's why we constantly look to the sideline prior to the snap.

I agree 100%. Watson is the future?? Well the future is now. Watson came in and threw a perfect over the shoulder td pass. Then we didn't put him in the next series. Come on Dabo or Morris what's up? This kid has game. So get him in the game, not a 2-3 series.

I agree. Dabo has this loyalty fixation that leaves superior players on the bench. No one "deserves" to play they earn it through performance. If Cole Stoudt has been here for a 10 years patiently waiting, if he's not the best QB then he shouldn't be starting. I wonder about a Dabo and Morris. How could they not realize that we had a lousy OL?

We beat Ohio St. Awesome We won the ACC. Because Florida St. Lost a handful of games. That got Dabo a contract worse than Bowdens. He also.......... Had the worst loss in bowl history. Had the worst loss in Death Valley ever. Had the only losing season at Clemson in the last 15 years. (mind you, this is when HE was calling plays) Has the longest losing streak to the coots going on. But has run our O-line so far into the ground, he can't even dress enough guys to have a back up at each spot tonight. And people want to talk about Cole or Watson. Or Chad's play calling. Or our lack of running back. The problem is our decision maker! Dabo! Maybe our A.D. Is hugging and consoling him AGAIN in the tunnel.

Food for thought. I just don't think Dabo is a really top-flight coach. He doesn't seem to be able to realistically evaluate players or to develop them once they get here. He frequently describes players as great when they clearly aren't. Our Ol line is very poor, but he seems not to have recognized this and made any adjustments to compensate for it. He is a good recruiter, but his grasp of the game as a HC seems limited---and we continue to have these embarrassing blowout losses.

MAKES ME SICK RUNNING QB DRAWS & PLAYING OLD FORMER BACKUPS
Aug 31, 2014, 3:09 AM
|
|
DUDE seriously sick of this Loyalty CRAP........How is Morris gonna compliment Watson on changing the play through making big boy checks and changing his protections on that drive to throw an nlf ish td pass & THEN BENCH THE MUTHER ###### FOR NO REASON and then the RBs are sorry as ####….I mean we used to have JAMES DAVIS CJ ANDRE…BTW Soni Michell wanted to come to Clemson and we dropped his scholarship cause he has a knee injury. How, did we miss on Mike Davis as well, I say to the hell with all those guys and run that big tight end McCullough I think he could pound some skulls in. The play calls on Offense were so retarded it seemed like we threw the game for money or something…I mean I was like wha….. where’s Mike WIlliams , Artavous Scott, Charone Peake….They were making play’s but Scott and peak got taken out of the game…..PLAY THE #### FIVE STAR PLAYERS>>>#### THE FORMER BACKUPS….FSU GAVE THE TEAM TO WINSTON AND TRICKET LEFT……NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP! GET A #### RUNNING BACK THAT DOESN’T"T RUN LIKE HE"S STIFF AND 45 YEARS OLD…..Gallaman looked good when he ran the ball twice………the rest of the time he was flared out or lead blocking for this “amazing RB” Called Cole Stoudt…. this was non-sense and I think the staff should here about it…. It’s foolish life isn’t fair if your not the best your a backup for a reason! PS Cole was bated that means he eyes his recievers and he only threw the ball to 2 guys...this was terrible from the begining Howard SUX so bad ADAM CHOICE DABO already said he was the best rb they had……cough cough… then why the #### isn’t he playing…… Oh Gallaman should have been handed the ball more too. Davidson is ok but just a backup or a slot. i think most every major college football team has a better running back than Clemson exhibited tonight…….
lol the line can't block everyone when your only play is QB draw....it just blitzing everyone and playing man with a scared QB..... The oline is fine not having a running game that’s legit is not…and the QB running thing is high school...Tonight you shoulda learned that lesson.......

Give the Team to Watson and the Stud recruits. only a FN idiot wouldn't have at least took a shot! You had 4 guys running patterns over 6'3, and 2 over 6'5........morons! Literally Morons! Put a big back in to pound a team ever so often McCoughla why not... he caught that screen and he turn violently into that defender like he was ready to level him! These ##### we got in the back field won't win a game... you are not a Running team get that out of your head with these guys... so stupid that like a 95 Bulls deciding to play through Bill Carieght to run there offense.... It's stupid.......So Stupid.....I felt taht Spence or napier was out there but atleast they knew how to execute a screen play to get the blitzers off the QB.....

I share your frustration. We have one really good RB-Adam Choice. Our Ol is pathetic. We aren't playing our best QB, although he'd have no blocking. And they keep playing DJ Howard who isn't even a Div-1 back. Long season ahead. And we lose to Carolina again.

What I want to know from Morris is what was he thinking

in the second half of the ballgame. We were running the ball well and kept drawing Ga. in closer but instead of going down field, we kept throwing screen passes. He's the one who says you have to stretch the field but I guess he forgot that in the second half. Doesn't matter who the quarterback is if you have poor play calling.

Excuses, excuses. They were clearly the better team.

Re: New Story: Morris says Stoudt is the starter, Watson is the future

Chad last time I checked you play football to win not to get by until the future. You stay with Stoudt and you won't have a future with Clemson.
Thera a reason he sit the last three years behind Boyd.

Why in the Hell didn't we leave Watson in the game after his TD pass? Ridiculous really - it was clear to everyone, he has the right talent, mindset to move the team. Interesting move to only give him one series in the first half. Should have left him in, my opinion

That is what I said too. Why put him in at all if you are going to do

That.? Kind of a flaky move . Could have been a disaster but it turned out a success . You still take him out?

OK, I get the "circle the wagons, Cole's our man" rah rah

stuff, loyalty, and all that, but what was with the game plan and play calling in the second half? Did our tight ends not make it on to the bus for the trip? Do we not have schemes and play calls and outlets for linebacker blitzes? Was Ga's D coordinator just that much better than our million dollar O coordinator to offset with something? Why don't we pitch on the edge? Why don't we widen the field as we used to with sweeps? What's going on in the west zone?
Lastly, "we couldn't move the ball because of field position" - really? That's like saying in basketball we couldn't get shots because the defense had us too far out. That is seriously laughable, coffee pot humor for Mon morning! Get serious guys, enough propoganda!

Same thing with Humphries, just no game breaking ability in the punt or receiving game. You got a guy like Scott that a couple of catches including a acrobatic one for 30 something yards, then he hardly plays any more.Watson comes in and looks near perfect and you pull him for a couple of quarters to get rusty. You are trying to win a freaking football game, not trying to honor scholarships through intensive playing time.McCullough and Gallman have a violent edge to them, shouldn't they see more playing time from here on out.Nope won't happen,Stoudt,Howard,Humphries,Sam Cooper(when he returns will) will close out their careers starting all 13 games and Dabo will have done his job promising the parents of these kids starting jobs when their"time" has come around
