Clemson looking at all options for football schedule in 2016 and beyond

Associate Athletic Director Kyle Young is hard at work trying to fill in the blanks in Clemson's football schedule for 2016 and beyond. What out of conference teams are the most attractive? What neutral site games are under consideration? Full Story »

Penn St and NC State had a pretty good little series going years ago. I doubt we'd ever do that though. Getting SEC teams and maybe a Big 12 (to prepare us for our move there ) would be nice. ;)

the matchups are going to be good games with geographic rivals. I'd love to embarrass a b1g team, but there's no guarantee that they'll be having a decent year. We have to worry about impressing voters.

It'd be cool if uf would venture out of state, but their scheduling rule is as many games in the state of FL as possible preferably against bad teams.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It will help the playoff vote if we WIN them. What if we

May 30, 2014, 12:39 AM

Tennessee, A&M, Florida, Missouri, Penn State, WVU, Ohio St, Bama, Ole Miss, Texas, Oklahoma, Texas Tech or SMU would all be fun. Playing in Texas or Oklahoma would help with establishing our brand to recruits in the Big XII pipeline states

May 29, 2014, 11:28 PM

I hate paying CLEMSON $$$$ to the Podunk Possums to roll over & play dead for us to practice against. NCAA or whoever is in charge soon needs to cut this practice off if they want to have a TRUE champion with a playoff system.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: UGA, TENN or FLA--no roadtrips to Big 12 and no more FCS!!!

May 30, 2014, 4:49 AM

I can't recall Clemson playing 1.Tennessee or 2.Florida, and those matchups would be pretty sweet. I think Tennessee has gotta be on the rise soon. You also gotta love the Georgia/Auburn matchups, they have been very competitive ballgames, and both are natural rivalries and storied programs...especially with Georgia being so close. It would be awesome to play Georgia/Auburn on a fairly consistent basis. Itd also be nice to pay Bama back for taking our lunch... The Tigers have become a better program since then.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Tennessee or Alabama please!

May 29, 2014, 11:29 PM

We've already spanked Auburn and Georgia... Tennessee and Alabama seem like the logical next step.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Also, a home and home with Florida would be nice...

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Bama

May 29, 2014, 11:44 PM

Just read that they're looking for someone to play in 2015. Honestly think we should drop wofford or app state and add bama and then play them again in 2016. Lets play someone worth mentioning and find out if we are as good as we think we are.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Bama

May 30, 2014, 12:53 AM

Lol, yeah. Let's be like all those other teams and start playing 2 OOC games against top 10-20 SEC teams every year.

Wait, we're already one of the only teams to do that. And the top programs like Bama and FSU have those games on their schedules, too.

I am disappoint.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

If we approached Bama

May 30, 2014, 7:40 AM [ in reply to Bama ]

If they were seriously approached, you'd probably find that Bama is actually looking for a team like App St. or Wofford to fill the hole ... not Clemson.

never are one of the ONLY FOUR chosen ones with a couple or three losses each year. We have no idea how tough some of the ACC teams will become (Miami,VT, Pitt in coming years) and Syracuse which has the capability to get good again and whip us like they have before in bowls and Louisville in our division now will be no pushover. I'd rather us concentrate on beating FSU and SCAR before we go taking on Alabama again. I know as fans it's exciting but realistic it's going to be more important to be champions of a big five conference and as close to undefeated as possible to play for a national championship.

In order to be the best you have to beat the best:

May 30, 2014, 7:15 AM

NCST will schedule its game as an "OOC" game vs Duke. An extra win that will help them get into the Bell helicopter bowl. We need prime time exposure against UGA, etc. on prime time TV to get the next Sammy Watkins. The bigger game the better.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We have a big OOC game we haven't won in some time:

May 30, 2014, 8:26 AM

SCAR. Winning that might help.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Tennessee please!

May 30, 2014, 7:40 AM

Purely from a selfish standpoint, I would love to see a home and home series against Tennessee. Having lived in the state for over 20 years now, I would love to have a couple more wins over the Vols on our record. Even though my wife got a graduate degree at UT, I have never been to a football game in Neyland stadium. Going to my first game there wearing the right orange and watching my Tigers beat the Vols at home would be the best first UT game that I can think of!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Tennessee please!

May 30, 2014, 2:31 PM

Let's hop in the "Way Back Machine" and dial it back to 1976...
Tennessee wide receiver lines up outside of the official and sprints down the sideline undefended and unseen by the Clemson defense until he's caught the game winning touchdown pass.
Clemson staff protests. Losses protest.
Clemson AD protests and losses.
It's rumored that a high ranking Clemson person uttered the phrase...."Clemson will never play Tennessee at Tennessee again".
I don't think the Peach Bowl (or any bowl for that matter would count in that threat/promise).

Just my two cents of a history lesson.... Carry on.

There are quite a few SEC teams we can take the series lead

May 30, 2014, 9:09 AM

or tie the series lead with just a few wins - Kentucky, LSU, Miss St, Ole Miss, aTm, and Vandy. This is who we need scheduled. Clemson needs to improve its record against the SEC and the best way to do that is play all the teams...Not just Bama, UGA, and Auburn.

Clemson has played enough FBCS schools(cash games). GA is going to be looking for out of conference just like Clemson. Schedule home and home for 16 17 18 19. Pick up Chic-Filet every other year and maybe a good travel game. Got to be mindful of the amount of money it takes to travel our staff and players along with the band. Make sure that any travel to Midwest out of conference games is at least break even in cost. I travel extensively for my employer and La, Tx, Oh and Northeast are high dollar travel destinations.
