Can't cross over NCAA tourney-- thus being on TV and landing

on Sunday-- no other option really

one of the games had to fill that slot and there are only 8

Doesn't make any sense no matter how you look at it

Posted: Mar 19, 2014 11:01 PM

This would have been one of the most watched 2nd round games, but I don't think many will be tuning in for an 11am start (10am for most Illinois fans).

NCAA games start at 1

Any later and nobody but Clemson and Illinois fans are going to be watching the game.

At least now you might get some extras watching it instead of the 5th rerun of some ESPN sportscenter/sports reporters/OTL etc.

Albany to be exact. One of the most unchurched areas in the country. It was nothing to have a full slate of little league games, baseball, soccer, etc., on Sunday mornings. My kids are past that age. Is it that way down here too? I know it wasn't 20 years ago. I know a lot you don't but I spend Sunday mornings in church.

Church is where you should be on Sunday morning.***

I pastor a church in Columbia and drive past a huge complex

on Polo Rd. every Sunday morning on the way to church. This time of year it is packed every Sunday morning through Sunday night with game after game after game of baseball, softball and even soccer. It definitely isn't like it used to be. When I grew up we didn't have games or even practice on Wed. nights because of church. Of course, you couldn't shop either on Sundays with blue laws :)

For the fourth time this year I will get to see a basketball and baseball game on same day. I agree this shouldn't be a habit, but I understand the unique circumstances. This hoops team deserves a full house.

Mine has an 8 and 10:30. I normally go to the 10:30. Guess I'll be getting up earlier this Sunday.

some even have an evening service***

I really wanted to go to the game. Yes, God will forgive me if I miss, but my Life Group may not. I have to put them first.

Will be at the 830 church service in Clemson and in Littlejohn for the game.

How many show up?

Posted: Mar 19, 2014 11:20 PM

We had 3,859 for the Georgia State game, the second largest crowd of the first day. How many do we have for this one? My guess is around 1,000.

All things considered, maybe 11 am on Sunday is actually

[1]

more attractive than 9 pm on a Tuesday.

Church go-ers will have a decision to make for sure, but that issue aside, getting up early on a Sunday, having breakfast and heading out to LJ is not all that bad.

I think, with several days to make plans people will turn out for this game.

you're way wrong. There are 6000 already planning to be

Posted: Mar 20, 2014 8:24 AM

in Clemson for the baseball game at 1:00. A majority of those folks will decide to ride over 2 hours earlier and take in the basketball game. Plus the basketball hardcores.

There will be a big crowd.

Yep ... those who are gong to make a 1 pm first pitch at BTF

Posted: Mar 20, 2014 8:28 AM

have already decided to skip church this Sunday unless they live pretty darn close by.

Fire Jack!! Am I doing it right?

that's 10 AM where I live

Good news is that I'll get to at least listen to most of the first half BEFORE church.

Re: that's 10 AM where I live

Posted: Mar 22, 2014 11:25 AM

9 AM where I live. I have a dozen eggs and two packages of righteous sausage. A pot of grits and some serious coffee and a full toaster will finish off the consumables ... so now lets see all the all y'alls and have a great time!

Awesome, now I can cuss loudly at the game.

Church times

[1]
Posted: Mar 20, 2014 6:18 AM

There are some churches that only have Sun morning device but I think most have more choices. I work just about every Sunday morning but luckily there are two Sun morning services, Sun night, and Sat night. Another option is go to church in Clemson this Sunday. I personally have to work and won't be there but just making some suggestions .

Better be a lot of people 'sick' from church...

Posted: Mar 20, 2014 6:53 AM

And remember you can go again NEXT Sunday

CDS was right - QUIT QUACKING - good grief !!! A basketball

So will probably be at 430 or 6 service. Also could go to 830 service and in Clemson by 1030.

Times for some Clemson area early church services

[1]
Posted: Mar 20, 2014 1:56 PM

Crosspoint has a 9am.
Clemson UMC has an 8:30am.
Holy Trinity has an 8am.
University Baptist has a 9:30am.
University Lutheran has an 8:30am

No matter what time the game is people will complain

Posted: Mar 20, 2014 8:14 AM

and make excuses on why they cant go. Everyone is so self important these days. If it's a church obligation ask for forgiveness.

Go to early service!***

Dear NIT

If you don't want to go up against NCAA, has it occurred to you that Monday through Wednesday is available each week? Could have waited until Mon-Wed of next week for all second round games. Monday through Wednesday of the following week could be the next round, and then have Mon and Wed of the next week for the final four. Simple.

It occurred to me even before the time was announced! Can I just blame the 4 letter network???

Awesome! Golden Opportunity!! Find a church with an 8:30

service - it's good for the spiritual soul to change things up a bit - basketball at 11, baseball at 1.

What could be better?!

shows there is too much control for TV/ESPN

Posted: Mar 20, 2014 10:58 AM

but i can't really see how this timing makes much sense for TV viewing either...

the NCAA and the conferences have given too much power/control to ESPN

church going folks I know would never miss a service to attend a sporting event ..... but they will do ANYTHING to make a dollar!

You paint with an extremely broad brush ...

Posted: Mar 20, 2014 1:31 PM

Most of the church-going people I know would not be especially pleased with the choice of game time, but would understand.

I lived in Clemson when the Panthers played their inaugural season in Death Valley and I recall how much turmoil was caused by the influx of rowdy NFL fans on Sunday mornings ... but ... we somehow adapted and made it work for that one season.

Clemson's church-going fans will make this rather weird tip-off time work for this one game as well.

Could be worse - it could be at their arena and then we

b!tch about it being up there & us being a 3 seed :)

As a family we were planning on making this game but

[1]
Posted: Mar 20, 2014 12:08 PM

obviously now we won't be there. I know about the television money and the NIT etc but when you do this type thing don't question why there aren't more fans at the game.

Why not visit a church in Clemson this week?***

Posted: Mar 20, 2014 1:47 PM

Re: BKB Update: Clemson will host Illinois on Sunday

Posted: Mar 20, 2014 1:28 PM

I'm convinced people just want something to complain about. For gosh sakes people, we get another home game. Anyone who was in attendance Tuesday night knows what an electric atmosphere we had. Let's create it again and stop whining about how inconvenienced we are. These kids deserve our support. Go Tigers!

Anyone who uses "I have to be at church" as an excuse

Posted: Mar 20, 2014 1:46 PM

wouldn't come anyway, even if the game was in the afternoon.

Maybe FCA could come out and do a pre-game service...would that satisfy any of you?

Most churches have multiple services. If yours doesn't, visit one that does Sunday evening.

Come into town early and pick a church of your preferred denomination...they'd love to have you.

Wrong.

Posted: Mar 20, 2014 2:06 PM

I usher at church, so I will have to be at the services. If the game were during a normal time, I would have been there loud and proud. I had actually contacted six other guys to go with me too.

And you couldn't find someone to sub for you? Excuses.

[1]
Posted: Mar 20, 2014 2:17 PM

I think they will survive without you for a week.

I was supposed to play (praise band) this week but found a sub last night...

Thanks for service info...

Sports and Church

I live in Lexington, SC and our youth sports do not play on Wednesday or Sunday. Unless you're playing USSSA baseball. They are all about the money and play every Sunday.
