Just win your conference and you can get an automatic bid

To the bcs it's not that hard to understand

Didn't even deserve the bids BCS bowls they did get, much less extras.

He doesn't understand how low-life a coach they have. Last time I checked, there have been a couple of secheat teams to make BCS bowl games in the same season in the past. I seem to remember AL and LSU both getting in a NC game a couple of years ago.

True Dugatiger, but don't confuse them with facts. That will make them more insane than they already are.

Yo are so right. Facts do seem to confuse them. They are not used to having anything factual presented to them, other than, "dang boy, this pizza is cold!"

They do have a rich history. Not!

That come back is so weak...

[7]
Posted: Jan 5, 2014 5:51 PM

You can tell that it got under OBC's skin. I love it. Also, does he really want to go on record that his team can't get an invite to a BCS bowl because they can't ever win their conference? All in all, for someone who is known for being quick with words, that just fell delightfully flat.

Re: That come back is so weak...

Posted: Jan 5, 2014 9:14 PM

You did nail it! He is used to his fan base thinking his stupid comments are cute. To them, they are, but to the rest of the real world they are just really weak comments by a jerk who is trying to make chicken salad out of chicken s-it.

PS: Spurrier's comment makes not sense. SEC teams can go to BCS games. 5th place SEC teams cannot. BUT PLEASE just walk away.

Clemson did win the OB twice and so they are the ONLY school from SC to win a BCS bowl - actually 2 according to Slurrier...

THE ORANGE BOWL OF 1981 was for the NC, and was played in the orange bowl......BCS was not a house hold word or saying at that time, was known about as much as computer....Daba was correct, we are 1 and 1....period

we've won THREE Orange Bowls all-time

Frank Howard won the first one.

Deer USC recruits; Your HC just just admitted that you

will NEVER play in a championship game because your team is not good enough to win its conference championship.

So, if you believe that you are going to win a NC, you are advised to consider alternative schools that may have a chance of winning its conference championship.

So he's saying Orange Bowl = BCS bowl?

If so, then Dabo's comment is still true about being the only school from SC to win one. We've just won 2 "BCS" bowls.

Weak response Spurrier, but I figured you would want to have the last word.

You think the sack would consider a secretary job for Tim B.
He doesn't even know which bowls he has coached, but his head is up Thomas Green Clemson's kazoo. He doesn't even know he is the winningest coach in Columbia over the past three years, EXCEPT for the equestrians and Tanner's BB team.

Half the teams in the SEC have gone to BCS bowl games since Spurrier started at South Carolina. Alabama Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Georgia and LSU

Aahhhhh hah hah hah hah! What a butthurt little brat he is.

I really hope Dabo doesn't touch that mess any more. Spurrier's wallowing in his own drivel now. He should know better after his coach's show debacle not to give any interviews after getting into the sauce.

Congrats to all you coots on your prince of a coach. Really. You two really deserve each other.

Can't get to the BCS? How about Ala, Aub, LSU, TN, Fla, GA??

Posted: Jan 5, 2014 6:36 PM

They have all done it. Spurrier is a Giant C OCK.

Maybe he means that USuC can't pay as many players

as the other SEC schools?

What does he mean they can't get invited?

[1]
Posted: Jan 5, 2014 6:57 PM

Is he admitting Scar will never be good enough to go to bcs game because they play in the sec? That should scare a recruit off that might want to travel to Miami and play a national program like OSU.

He just admitted that they will never finish higher than

[1]
Posted: Jan 5, 2014 8:03 PM

third in his own conference. And then claims they are the national champs of the bowl season? Maybe he meant to say "chumps" instead.

Guess what Spurrier, we are 3-2 in the Orange Bowl

Thanks Spurrier....

That come back was actually out of context. See Auburn and Alabama both made BCS games and they play college ball in the SEC....So, I think he needs to think about that....

Spurrier out of context

Posted: Jan 5, 2014 8:21 PM

That's what I was thinking as well! 2 SEC teams played in BCS. WASN'T ALABAMA INVITED? What am I missing here?

Translation: We lose a couple of games every year

Posted: Jan 5, 2014 8:27 PM

so we can't get invited since our top-heavy conference usually has a couple of teams with one loss or less. Boo hoo. Waaah haaah. Somehow it is better to be a lesser member of the mighty SEC and not go to BCS games? Really???!!! Good logic you have, coach. Kentucky can't seem to get a BCS invitaion

Disappointing comeback.

With all his success, his highest salary was $25,000 a year. The president of the university, Dr. R. F. Poole, feared that professors who earned less would be upset. 8 current SEC teams have been to BCS bowls

Posted: Jan 5, 2014 9:42 PM

And that was before this season. So, the SEC thing isn't a good excuse...

Only 7 SEC schools. TAMU doesn't count. Tougher from SEC.

Posted: Jan 6, 2014 2:31 PM

Obviously Spurrier's point was that, even though SCar has beaten Clemson 5-straight (and has had 3 11-win seasons), SCar was left out of the BCS and Clemson made it twice because it's tougher to get there from the SEC.

Considering the ACC's pathetic BCS bowl record (4-13) and the SEC's (17-9), I think practically all objective observers would agree that it's easier to get to a BCS bowl from the ACC and ACC teams have been typically less deserving.

SEC-East schools went 11-out-of 16 years (Florida, UGA, & Tennessee).

I don't think it matters how many different SEC schools went to BCS bowls, but even so, it makes no sense to count then-Big-12's Texas A&M as an SEC team because when Texas A&M got to the BCS, it wasn't in the stronger SEC (which was Spurrier's point).

A little amazed at it all. Was initially taken back and disappointment that Dabo would make a comment after a great win and given his staff has not conjured a win in the state rivalry...But for Spurrier to feel like he needs to respond? Guess it makes for good theater.

was sub .500 until they were in the SEC for a few years. Anyways, is he saying he knew they would never make it to a BCS bowl because even he knows they are just SC in Bama's or LSU's conference? I say Bama and LSU because they've clearly been the only consistently strong programs over the past decade. Obviously, Awburn bought a MNC with Newton and I believe they lose this year. Florida was good early in the decade, but didn't even make a bowl this year.

Would love to hear Danny tell everyone....

Sure you can OBC. You just have to have a good enough record and not lose to teams you're supposed to beat. Not complicated at all actually. You want to bang your chest about being in the mighty SEC, so don't whine when you can't get the job done. Congrats on another good season though.

losers make excusers

Excusing what the factors are is one thing , but pretending to be in an unfortunate situation with your conference affiliations ? Geesh Ballcoot, success is what you have...be happy. They do own our butts right now, but they are just not good enough to end up clear of the excuse ledge...and they keep jumping off of it. Clemson is truly the University of South Carolina...

Enjoy your state championship, it is the only one you will most likely ever get and it is not because you play in the SEC.

Good point + lame point = overall mediocre-lame comeback.

Posted: Jan 6, 2014 1:32 PM

Spurrier is right that it's harder for SCar to get invited to a BCS bowl because they're in the toughest conference full of desirable bowl teams. He should have left it at that. But the part about Clemson having been to an Orange Bowl before doesn't contradict Dabo's lame brag. It bolsters it. Clemson is STILL the ONLY team from SC to go to (what became a) BCS bowl. (I think. I don't have SCar's bowl history memorized.)

Spurrier must have let that alcohol kill the rest of his pea brain. It doesn't matter what you call it we are still the only team from this state to go to the Orange, Sugar or Cotton Bowl. Does Spurrier think in 1981 they were in the state of denial like they are now? W

The alcohol has eaten the rest of his little pea brain. Does he think anybody other than Clemson from this state has ever been to the Orange, Sugar, or Cotton Bowl? Yes, in 1982 we won the Orange Bowl but that's not the only other "major" bowl we won. We beat BC in the Cotton Bowl when it was one of 4 games on New Year's Day back in the good ole days. Use to be the Sugar, Cotton, Rose and Orange on New Year's Day and that was it. Then the Fiesta came along and about 30 more stupid bowl game. Spurrier is an idiot and he and his team live in the state of denial.

I am sure Coach Ford wishes Spurrier would leave him out

Re: Football Update: Spurrier responds to Dabo's Orange Bowl comments

In the decade of the 50's we went to 5 bowl games. And this was when there weren't but maybe 7 bowls. Of the 5 bowl games we played in, 3 of them were what is today called a BCS bowl. We went to 2 Orange and a Sugar a Gator and Bluebonnet Bowl in the 50's. That was big time football back then. It really meant something in those days to get a bowl game. Not like today when you can almost have a losing season and go to a bowl. Oh, and we won the '51 Orange, lost the '57 Orange and lost the '59 Sugar to the LSU national; championship team that had the Heisman winner on the team. I was at the '57 Orange Bowl. It was the game Coach Howard told the team he would quit if they didn't play better in the second half. We trailed Colorado 20 to 0 at the half and came out and took a 21 to 20 lead before getting beat in the end. The '59 Sugar we lost 7 to 0. They scored on a high snap from center on a punt I think it was. We beat Miami 15 to 14 in the '51 Orange Bowl. So you see, this ain't our first dance and it won't be our last. SC has been jealous of our success for 100 years.
