Kearse anxious to re-write Orange Bowl history

Freshman safety Jayron Kearse was in the stands for the 2012 Orange Bowl, cheering on a cousin that played for West Virginia. This time around, he wants to help Clemson escape the embarrassment of that loss. Full Story »

Does BV believe in using a spy?

Dec 26, 2013, 11:42 AM

I'm trying to remember if BV has ever used a spy on the opposing QB. It will not go well if we try to use the same defense from the South Carolina game against Ohio State. Miller is like Connor Shaw, except he's bigger and athletic.

I think Shaw is a better passer. Miller is a better runner***

When Miller throws he can be very effective. But he is

by far the better runner. But Miller only has 5 INT against 231 throws this season, and completes over 63%. Not shabby. By contrast Shaw completes fewer passes but does have only 1 INT in 259 tosses. I might give the edge to Miller just on completions. He has such a strong running game at his disposal he may only toss the ball when a defense gives him a terrific opportunity.

if cu holds osu to 200 yards below their season avg

He did against USC

I hate when people say this. We used a spy on Shaw SEVERAL times in the game. It just didn't work because of Shaw's athletic ability and our lack of getting of blocks.

Shaw isn't athletic? What world do you live in***

I mean even if he is a coot you have to give credit. Shaw is a heck of an athlete

Miller will get his rushing yards, but we have to make him pay when he does, knock the $hit out him, it didn't seem like we hit Shaw enough,

Review and Study the defensive effort and pursuit from the 1978 Orange Bowl game. These guys didn't quit until all found the guy with the ball. The way these guys fought off blocks while denying the blocker any contact with their bodies majority of the time. Taking the right angle of pursuit after the play developed or broke down. These guys looked hungry for contact that entire game.

was going to run it - really poor coaching by Venables!
It was not Kearse's fault, and he did make ten tackles - it was not his fault that there was not a spy on Shaw!

We held usc to 318 yards and Shaw had 94 yards rushing on 22 attempts so 4.3 yards per carry.

That's not my definition of really poor coaching.

Look towards the offense and 17 points or less for 5 years in a row.
