why no Offensive linemen?

You took the words right out of my mouth.

Earth to Dabo... Earth to Dabo:

It matters not how good our BQ and Receivers are if our O line cannot protect long enough for the Receivers to get separation down the field.

I'm a mustard-base guy myself.

And I say it DOES matter how good our BBQ is....

Just saying.

I definitely count smith as our next great one at Tackle.

May be if we had 30 O lineman we could run the ball better

Maybe the coaches feel like 5 of the 18 Offensive Linemen we have coming back - plus the one we have committed - will be good enough to hold it down next season. Plus another 5 to back them up in some capacity.

Maybe next year we sign 4 or 5 OL....

We'll see.

Why wouldn't DJ Smith have an opportunity to play early?

Dec 6, 2013, 9:40 AM

How does is not "bode well"… our secondary is still our weakest link, why shouldn't he get a look as a true freshman.

Re: Why wouldn't DJ Smith have an opportunity to play early?

Dec 6, 2013, 11:37 AM

Was wondering the same thing. Seems like he should be in good shape to see some playing time as a freshman, and does anybody know about Carolina's or UT's options at cornerback? Seems like Carolina would be more setup than we are at corner.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We signed 8 DBs

Dec 6, 2013, 12:58 PM

just last year. While we might be looking for starters, I don't think we have tons of openings.

We are actually only losing 1 player to graduation that saw the field back there this year.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

How many WR's do we need?

Dec 6, 2013, 10:46 AM

Shouldn't we maybe consider being dominant at the line of scrimmage too for once?

We are three deep on the OL but can barely field a two deep at WR. You make the call...

3 deep at OL???? What team have you been watching?

See, there you go wanting to take the excitement out of our games. Don't you think that it's exciting not knowing how/If our O line will be able to protect Kelly or Watson from game to game. And you;re wanting to screw that up by recruiting 3 or 4 game changing O linesman a year. Why? ;)

Do half you people even follow recruiting

Dec 6, 2013, 10:57 AM

Or do you just make up a wish list based on what you see on the field. We signed a lot of DBs last year and we have a ton of OL on scholarship already. Falcinelli might be a blue chipper in disguise anyway. IMO Raekwon is the biggest target left on our board.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Do half you people even follow recruiting

Dec 6, 2013, 11:03 AM

Agreed.... We need depth at LB, definately inside.

I like grabbing 4-star WR's every year. It's all about quality of depth there for me. We have back-ups that could be starting at other DI schools at that position. That's awesome!

Now we need to start having that at a couple other positions, as well. Obviously it is doubtful that we will ever have that at EVERY position, but WRs can kick-return, punt-return, and - heck - even be converted to DBs.

Ideally you sign 2-3 quality OL every year. We've lost several over the last couple years to freak career ending injuries, so we are due to have a big OL class (5 or 6 signees) next year or the year after.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

People seem to have forgotten the time

Dec 6, 2013, 11:52 AM

When we would beg for one 4 star WR to choose us. Now our depth chart is only 4 star recievers. No wonder a good qb in one of our pipeline states chose us. I would if I saw all the weapons I could throw too.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Everyone looking for blue chip OL should wait for 2015 class

Dec 6, 2013, 12:47 PM

I think there are two all world OTs that we are in good standing with at this point in time. Their names escape me but at least one of them is supposed to be a 5 star player.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Everyone looking for blue chip OL should wait for 2015 class

Dec 6, 2013, 2:18 PM

Your thinkin of Mitch Hyatt, 5-star, #1 offensive tackle out of Georgia. We are in great shape with him right now, he is a legacy and a huge Clemson fan. Hyatt has been to a ton of our games as well.

Not really sure who the second all star tackle is you are referring to, but I'll take all the trench help we can get.

Mason Veal, Charlotte area is probably the other OL prospect for 2015 you are thinking of.
