Front Page Story: Curtain call for the Cat Man

Curtain call for the Cat Man

Clemson kicker Chandler Catanzaro is almost automatic, a huge weapon that Clemson will miss next season. What does he say about his final home game? How is he helping Ammon Lakip? Full Story »

Is Pinion our man now? Not anywhere as impressive as

Cat Man. Or will Lakip finally get his chance?

We always have a power kicker and a precision kicker. Pinion will be for power, Lakip will be precision. I remember both being decent at both coming out of high school, but I think this is how it will shake out for the next two years

Seems Catanzaro was both.***

Been fun to watch

Always confident when his number gets called to kick for us. Been fun to watch him.

The walk on in the spring

Nov 18, 2013, 10:54 PM

There is a guy walking on named Robby Lowman in the spring. He is an incredible field goal kicker. I have no doubt he will start in the Fall 2014.

Some other kid from Florence has already accepted too.

Nov 18, 2013, 11:01 PM

So I guess we'll have 4 or more to choose from.

If the NFL doesn't work for him,

maybe he can stick around and help out our young boots. They'd be learning from one of the greatest.

Kid from South Florence

Nov 19, 2013, 1:16 AM

Is a four star kicker , best in SC for the cycle and main rating/recruiting services have him ranked in the top 10 nationwide. Lakkip was about the same if my memory serves. I think we will be ok at the position ...if not exceptional .

I live in Florence.

Nov 19, 2013, 2:22 AM

Alex Spence, from here at West Florence, is a 4 star kicker we have coming in. If no one already here can kick it, I promise you this kid can. Not many high school teams have a kid who kicks em consistently from 45 yards out and this kid does. Saw him last week and in pregame he was kicking em from 55+. Plenty of leg.

Catanzaro has quietly and honorably become one of Clemson's greatest !

Nov 19, 2013, 7:26 AM

One of my favorite players of all time !

Early in his career he had a LOT of misses in big spots

Nov 19, 2013, 8:44 AM

that cost us games.

Re: Early in his career he had a LOT of misses in big spots

I clearly remember Dabo stating after the Auburn game the problem was not Cat. Dabo said he had not spent the time with him he should have and knew what to do to fix the kick because it was Dabo's previous coaching specialty. He also said you would not know Cat was the same kicker his next three years.

Nov 19, 2013, 9:32 AM [ in reply to Early in his career he had a LOT of misses in big spots ]

I registered on Tigernet to reply to this ignorant post.

Catanzaro, as you may recall, managed to have a respectable freshman year DESPITE the fact that virtually every snap was off target, throwing off the snap-hold-kick rhythm.
Once the snapper was replaced, he has been a 90% + kicker.
He has been a model student athlete and overcame the adversity of his first year to become one of Clemson's greatest.
Too bad you don't get it, AllTimeClemson

^^Who's us? Based on your pulse, I'm thinking "us"

is a completely different team.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Other than Auburn, what big kicks did he miss

Nov 19, 2013, 8:56 AM

that cost us games?

None.

Nov 26, 2023, 2:15 PM

He missed one towards the end of the Wake Forest game in 2011 that WOULD HAVE cost us the game, had he not had a chance to rectify it with the 2nd & actual winning kick as time expired in that game.

And since that WF kick he has made 37 of 39 field goals.
Best among all active DI kickers.

And lest we not forget burying lsu from the fake Death Valley last year.
