Front Page Story: Venables talks front seven, corners that could redshirt

Venables talks front seven, corners that could redshirt

Defensive coordinator Brent Venables has been pleased with what he has seen out his defense after the first two games, and credits a deeper front seven with much of the success. What does he say about his corners? How does he think his safeties have played? What does he say about some of the freshmen defensive backs? Full Story »

I'm ready to see Alexander get out on the field and see what he can do. Its got to be frustrating for him, hope he can get some practice in this week.

I don't know if he is frustrated, but I sure am. It's sort of puzzling this guy was the talk of the recruiting class last year and you hear the DC say he has never seen him practice a down since he's been at Clemson. Doesn't that sound sort of strange? How can that be possible?

Alexander got hurt early on in fall camp

which is when the coaches implement their schemes and the like. He's seen Alexander during summer work outs but he's never seen him take a snap with the defense as of yet due to his injury.

How serious is his injury?

Makenzie Alexander was projected as one of our TOP signees

Seems strange to me that Venables has not taken the time or interest to see how he's doing or what his status is. I sure would want to know since a guy that talented is going to make the coach look a whole lot smarter down the road.

No rush, he's a freshman

He could come in and probably be solid, but we're not hurting for bodies. It's a nice problem to be able to redshirt someone like him.

of course everyone would like to see him get to play...

& be some phenom amazing player...but the truth is he's young, we have good depth so far, guys are playing well & together...so why worry about it so much now? if he red-shirts then he'll be able to play longer if he stays & stays healthy & productive instead of turning pro early.
you don't want to rush him & chance him being injured worse or he's lost on the field because of missing cap & practice...then his stock falls & that will mess with a kid's head big-time!
I have faith the coaches know what they're doing.
Go Tigers!
