I don't think there were ever as many as 85,000 seats. Record attendance, however, is 86,000 and that was people standing on other people's shoulders on the hill, I think. ;)

staff, concession 'ees., coaches, players, etc. (people without a seat) figured in attendance? I doubt it but if you did you might get 85,000 with a packed house.

They used to not limit Hill seating. Any student could get

a Hill ticket day of the game if wanted. Led to tons of extras in the stands. I remember as a student people being all over the Hill and in the isles of sections A and B. We just all crowded in and had a great time.

The hill got smaller in the early to mid 80's as sections AA

& KK were added as reserved seating. The West Zone also eliminated 2 slivers of GG in the corners.
