Gastroenteritis- Vomit, nausea and watery stools. My liver counts are high. I'm slowly getting back to norm and some time next week need to get another liver function test. I hope Sammy recovers soon. I def think some kind of stomach virus is going around.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yep, a stomach virus can cause your blood to be out of whack

Sep 29, 2012, 9:46 PM

It's mainly due to dehydration, and I imagine Sammy trying to practice through it didn't help much. I'd bet he threw up a bunch and continued to practice and that is a very bad thing to do. It will send your blood pressure up, and your kidneys will be effected as well.

I actually have something called eosnophilic gastroenteritis and flare ups can hurt more than you can put into words. He obviously doesn't have that, but if it's a bad enough virus it can make you feel like you want to just lay down and die anyway.

I hope Sammy gets back 100% this week.

They were coots and they still don't feel bad.

Well, now it makes sense. I never questioned Sammy, or

anybody in particular, but it was obvious we didn't have the whole story. Now we do.

Nobody questioned Sammy. Most thought he had a stomach bug

Sep 30, 2012, 8:58 AM

Makes sense now, obviously. Hope the guy will be good to go against GT.

Do HIPAA laws not count for anything when it comes to

Sep 29, 2012, 10:58 PM

college football? I understand the point of injury reports, but why discuss these kind of details about a young man's health in a public forum? Seems it should have been enough just to say Sammy was out with a virus and leave it at that.

Ah, the HIPAA. you are correct. Let's hope nobody makes a big deal of this. It will come to the point, in our society, where you will not even be able to mention someone's name publicly.

Re: HIPPA applies to everyone.***

Oct 1, 2012, 8:39 AM

Actually no, I believe that HIPPA laws apply only to health care providers, insurance companies, and employers. I do not believe that it applies to individuals who have knowledge of a person's health information through other sources, i.e., not because they are providing such care or managing their insurance coverage. I'm not saying that it's a good thing, but I'm pretty sure about the law.

Re: HIPPA applies to everyone.***

Oct 1, 2012, 1:03 PM

I think you are correct regarding HIPAA, but there may be other laws regarding confidentiality of student information. I often wonder about how coaches are allowed to disclose information about students not being eligible to play due to grade problems. I assume that both issues are solved by having the student-athlete and the parents sign some kind of confidentiality and HIPAA waiver.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

HIPPA applies to everyone.

Oct 1, 2012, 2:11 PM

It applies to everyone. So either Sammy told Dabo, or Sammy's parents, b/c Sammy technically is the only one that can recieve the information about his health, doctor's/nurses/cna's/janitors/security guards that work in hospitals all have to sign waivers, hell, as I nurse and my aunt came into my unit, I am not allowed to tell her husband, her sister, or anyone. So yeah, your all wrong.

ONLY IF YOU WORK FOR A HOSPITAL, last I checked

dabo is not employed by a hospital

Geez...best wishes for a speedy recovery.
I recently became aware of the effects of Visine poisoning.
Can't prove it but I have every reason to believe a waitress did it thinking it just makes you sick.
Scary isn't a strong enough word for the symptoms.
My wife and friend thought I was having a stroke.
I came to just in time to stop 911 from hauling me in an ambulance.
I thought it was just food poisoning.
Went immediately to my Doctor. It even dropped my body temps to dangerous levels.

Goggle it....unreal...odorless,colorless, tasteless
and it only takes a few drops.
NASTY stuff.

Took me several days to recover.
Key symptom difference from food poisoning is no
runs...just NASTY vomting. Coma like symptoms.
Fluctuating blood pressure and heart rate and drops
body temps. Started with inability to focus vision and
then ..BANG...pass out and convulsions w/ vomiting.
Tests Visine in blood stream aren't usually administered
so if often is un-detected.
I doubt that is what happened to Sammy but just wanted
to pass along this warning.
If you get violently sick within 30 minutes or so of eating be sure to REQUIRE the Drs. etc to test for Visine.
Goggle Visine poisoning....unreal.
It ain't a funny practical joke. I dang near died.
Get well soon Sammy.

Just an attempt at a public service announcement

Oct 1, 2012, 10:03 AM

I meant no harm and thought some might like the
the info.
Sorry if it offended anyone.
Regardless of the fact I'm a Coot if it helps even a Tiger
I just couldn't NOT mention this insidious practice
that some ignorant people think is a funny practical joke.
