Defense highlights first scrimmage

Clemson held the first of its August scrimmages in Death Valley Saturday morning, a scrimmage that most observers would tell you was won by the defense. Full Story »

Lets not take away from what we do have in 2012. Good teams become great teams by graduating good guys and replacing them with better guys. I think that is what our coaches are doing now. Gooooo Clemson Tigersssss!!!

D gave up a 35 yard td run to boyd...

Aug 11, 2012, 5:26 PM

that spooks me.last year our big problem was a qb that could run.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I thought about that too, but Boyd is supposedly

Aug 11, 2012, 6:06 PM

more physical and leaner this year.

And... it's just the first scrimmage with pads. ;)

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

i hope that is the case***

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

EXACTLY! All the D had to do was TOUCH him....and he still

Aug 11, 2012, 8:14 PM [ in reply to I thought about that too, but Boyd is supposedly ]

scampered for 35 yrd without anyone "tagging" him?

TB is "svelt" this year and can run !!!

Yet another weapon on the "O". !!!

Before ACL in HS, Boyd was ranked a top dual-threat QB.

Aug 12, 2012, 11:53 AM [ in reply to D gave up a 35 yard td run to boyd... ]

After the ACL injury, Boyd played with a brace, his HS offense changed to accomodate the injury, and he was listed as a top pro-style QB. The guy can run, and if you'd watched Morris use QB GJ Kinne at Tulsa, you'd see that Morris has some great plays to get QBs running room.

Ugh...the Maryland game...***

Makes me feel good that the defense was great, considering all I have heard 104.9 over the last few weeks. Way to got to Brent!

touche

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

and the next scrimmage, offense highlights scrimmage

Aug 11, 2012, 9:42 PM

and the next defense and the next offense, we know how this pre season stuff goes.......the deck is stacked for each side of the ball to receive headlines and then the season starts and we know what we have......great clemson tradition started by bowden.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Glass half empty or half full?

Aug 11, 2012, 9:46 PM

If Boyd scampered 35 yds untouched maybe our HOGS are better than we''re all thinking they are...

For relaxing times, make it Suntory time

Or maybe Morris is willing to run Boyd due to backup quality

Aug 12, 2012, 12:06 PM

At Tulsa Morris ran his QB, GJ Kinne a lot when needed but the QB was always a threat to run and it kept the defenses honest, making Tulsa's offense work really well. I think due to the lack of a quality backup QB, last season Morris rarely ran Boyd, and Boyd rarely ran on his own. It was quite different from the dual-threat-QB offense that Morris ran at Tulsa. With Stoudt more experienced and Kelly onboard, I've been wondering if Morris would get back to his Tulsa-style, dual-threat-QB offense. To me, it still seems risky for 2012 but with an experienced Kelly in 2013, I'll bet we'll see a lot more QB runs in 2013.

thought the following from your article: 1.
DJ howard's showing-he is a must 2. that the defense impressed is no surprise-must keep it up 3. the high goals are coming from the players-very good

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

this is what ticks me off.

Aug 12, 2012, 9:05 AM

It sounds like Townsend should start, but come the Auburn, they will start one of the LB's from last year ahead him b/c of bullcrap politics. I don't care who about being a good practice guy and knowing all the plays. I want LB's that are physically capable of making plays in the backfield and chasing people down.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

lol....isn't Anthony starting?

Aug 12, 2012, 9:19 AM

How about the punter, sounds like he's got it locked up. I believe we have a safety/lb first year frosh that's starting.

What exactly has happened that suggests if LT should be starting he won't? Sounds like he had a great day....doesn't mean he didn't also have the broken coverages that gave up the big plays either.

But if you are just hell bent on getting upset over it, knock yourself out.

badge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

There's no such thing as a stupid question, just stupid people who ask questions.
